they are very good on returns, my friend bought a used antenna from
them, sent it back and they did not charge him a restocking fee. there is one dealer www.radios4you.com /(electronic-specialties on eBay) that does not give refunds under most situations. from their website: 5. All Sales Final. Sorry we do not offer a satisfaction warranty and do not accept returns. Reasonable attempts will be made to provide an upgrade solution if requested and the original product is returned in new condition. A 25% restocking fee will be deducted for returns without explicit e-mail approval. I dunno, the first several people who posted all reported good results dealing with Universal - then a day or so later people with complaints started posting. It probably depends on what you're ordering. It probably also depends on how you deal with them. If the first question you ask is "what's your best price" you give the impression rock bottom price is more important to you than good service, and you're not likely to become a loyal customer. If you talk down to them, they're not likely to enjoy helping you. If you're friendly and reasonable, most people will put a little extra effort into trying to reciprocate. Reasonable advice for sure, but in my experience, Universal does: (a) ship out returned radios (even with wear marks) as new; and (b) lie about their stock situation. In the purchases involved, I accepted their posted Web price, i.e. no hagling (sp?), and certainly never talked down to them. Of course, one is just as likely to get a *new* radio as opposed to a returned radio from Universal -- it all depends on the status of their returns, I would think. I purchased a hand held antenna from Burghardt and was charged $15.00 for
UPS Ground. They don't notify of shipping charges until you receive it, at least the time I ordered. Honestly that was my problem since I didn't ask. The truth of it is, that is far to expensive to charge. Keep product costs down, make up the difference in shipping I guess. "Dave Heil" wrote in message ... Dwight Stewart wrote: "Rusty in Louisville" wrote: I would like to get some opinions about Universal Radio, Inc., located in Reynoldsburg, Ohio. (snip) I've had mixed results with Universal Radio - one order went well and another didn't. I've had slightly better results with Burghardt (www.burghardt-amateur.com) and their prices are often better. However, since you added a shortwave newsgroup to your message, I should point out that their primary focus is on Amateur Radio, with very little shortwave equipment. I've had less than pleasant experiences with Universal. The staff seems almost surly and almost equally unfamiliar with the equipment they sell. Prices are higher, by quite a margin, over other dealers. My personal preference is R&L Electronics in Hamilton, Ohio, just north of Cincinnati. Dave K8MN |

I noticed your message was posted from "news.uni-berlin.de." You are in the United States, right? If not, $15 is not excessive to ship something to Germany. However, if you're in the USA, you're right that $15 is a little high. However, I don't know why they would charge that. If I remember correctly, they only charged me about $15 (also UPS ground) when they shipped two handheld radios with extra batteries and chargers. Perhaps they have a minimum shipping charge or something. Honestly that was my problem since I didn't ask. Well, it is certainly a good idea to get all the details before ordering - something I would recommend with any mail-order transaction. The truth of it is, that is far too expensive to charge. I've only ordered from them once, but my experience was generally
good. Shipping charges were listed up front ($4.95 to ship a Kaito radio, not bad...), and my order arrived in good condition. Turns out I'm not crazy about the radio, but that's not their fault. I'd probably buy from them again. jm "Rusty in Louisville" wrote in message ... I would like to get some opinions about Universal Radio, Inc., located in Reynoldsburg, Ohio. I've been a customer of Universal Radio for well over
10 years and always received cureous and polite service. I find using the 800 order line makes everything faster moving. I recently purchased an Icom-R75, ordering it on a Saturday, having the DSP optioned installed (they do it for free and it eliminates any warantee problems). They intalled the DSP module on Mpnday and shipped it Tuesday, I received the receiver Thursday and it works as I expected-good. The receipt shows that Universal installed the DSP unit and is under full warantee. I's reccoment Universa Radio without a second thought. Grove, Lentini and AES are also very reliable as is R&L I've used them all with good results CB |

I bought my HT and some other items there, and AFAIR everything shipped
promptly. My one complaint is that their online "shopping basket" times out very quickly: a couple of times I needed to check something and by the time I came back to continue shopping my basket was empty again. My biggest purchases have been from HRO, but their prices are sometimes higher.
