I would like to get some opinions about
Universal Radio, Inc., located in Reynoldsburg, Ohio.

My reason for asking is they seem to never ship on time
and always have to back order, sometimes taking 30 days
or more to back order.

Had significant trouble with an R8B order. They did not ship as they
promised and the worst part was they lied to me. The office manager was
exceptionally surly when I called and asked what had happened. I doubt they
know the first thing about good customer service.

Universal Radio is horrible. Period.

After giving them many chances after knowing better, they continually
disappoint.

They NEVER have anything in stock, DO NOT communicate, and will not ship
to addresses other then the billing address.

Thanks to their horrible service, I've gone elsewhere and always saved
money. Thanks Universal!

Based on the responses here, you have been lucky, and are in the minority.

That is not the experiences that I have had with Universal Radio.

I have had iutems shipped to a different address a couple of times with no
problems. I have been a customer for over twenty years with not a problem

YMMV.

I dunno, the first several people who posted all reported good results
dealing with Universal - then a day or so later people with complaints
started posting.

It probably depends on what you're ordering.

It probably also depends on how you deal with them.

If the first question you ask is "what's your best price" you give the
impression rock bottom price is more important to you than good service,
and you're not likely to become a loyal customer.

If you talk down to them, they're not likely to enjoy helping you.

If you're friendly and reasonable, most people will put a little extra
effort into trying to reciprocate.

Placed one order with Universal Radio, and it was promptly processed.
Have been waiting on a back order (Sony AN-LP1 Active Loop SW antenna)
since early January. I'm sure they're waitning on Sony to deliver to
them, but it's frustrating.

They've got a thing for cats. I often wonder if I should send them an
anonymous fax of a "Far Side" cat cartoon, the one where the cat is
being hauled away by two cops. ;^)

They've also got a thing for that young lady with the short dress and high
heels sitting in front of the radios in their showroom. Her photograph has
been in every single catalog I've received (for years). Universal says
they've been in business since 1942 and I have to wonder at this point if
that same photograph has been in the catalog throughout all that time.
Indeed, that "young woman" could be 70-80 years old today. However, the
dress, hair style, and style of high heels, suggests the picture was taken
in the 70's, which means she may only be 40-50 years old. :-)

Universal is a couple miles from my home. I've bought small items
from them, but have never ordered by mail any radio, so did not
comment on topic. But as far as the slender blond with the high heels
goes, I've seen her there and she's one of the hottest ladies in
amateur radio, but I don't think she has a license. She's probably in
her 40's.

Have you seen the gal in the Burghart advertisements? Wow!
