But if there's
significant difference in electrical potential, it's a good indication that
your radio grounding system needs work or re-thinking.

Maybe someone can post a link to a site with good grounding info.

I know you're right there John, I'm not txing yet so everything in my shack is
just receiving so I didn't think it'd make that big a deal.

But I spent about a whole day in just concentrating on each piece and properly
grounding everything and it was the best 'accesorie' ;-) I ever bought. The
difference in the noise floor, which was low to begin with because of my
location, dropped noticably......to the point that I think I actually posted a
thread in here trying to convince people, that if their receivers weren't
*properly* grounded to get out there and ground them. You won't be sorry,
heck with the lightening thing (even though it's a biggie), just in your dxing
experience.

Dxluver March 6th 04 08:46 AM

you know what,, screw off, wow you found what you needed!!!!

Since you never post in here, I won't even reply 'much' to you. he he.
College? Huh, I bet they taught you how to write didn't they, looks like it.

Thank you for playing. sheesh

Dxluver March 6th 04 08:51 AM

dont rip on the shack employees for your short comings. if you have to
complain about them you are just to frustrated with what you needs are, so
yes let them sell phones and make more money than selling $10.94 worth of
connectors, and then you trying to

explain to them about radio

I stopped reading and didn't see that you kept babbling, so I'll reply.
*They* bothered me. As soon as I walked in. *HE* asked 'me' what I was
looking for, but didn't know what to get. Even though I physically had the
receiver in my hand...lol...yeah...helped through college.

The ONLY way to make money at Radio Shack (per former employee) he said "is to
lie."-----enough said. I'm sure you did your share. he he

Dxluver March 6th 04 09:07 AM

Lord help us if you work retail again. Let us know which store so we can stay
the hell away.

Good post Linus. When I realized they weren't going to help (even though I am
pointing at the radio in my hand) and went to get it myself, I was followed
like a shoplifter.

It is sooooo simple in my life with problems like that. When I am treated in
that such manner, I refuse to go there anymore. It was a store on my parents
side of town anyhow but even if it was here local, I PROMISE I would NEVER
step foot in their store again.

There are four rat shacks in the 'area' so too speak. Because of that incident
there are now TWO that I literally won't walk in, it's a very basic and honest
system of doing business. It's the ONLY way (as a customer) to be able to
'even the score.' The funny thing is, they (the employees) have caused it
every time, not I. Honest.

I GUARANTEE I would have spent at least $200.00 just in little accesories from
that store in a year , nothing much. Adapter/batteries/guy wire/hi-beam
light......little stuff that adds up over a year. They won't get it. I'll
just wait and go to the one closer to my house and when their good employees
'finish college' and they bring in num nuts like that guy, I will then be down
to one rat shack....lol...he he.

Pretty simple actually. :-)

Maybe this is an aberration, but it sure was nice to be able to buy
something without having to draw the person a diagram.

It used to be the way it was all the time, or at least the majority. The
changing of times I suppose.

Coiled up is the best way.

Should I untape it and just let it hang? I mean, no one will see it or
anything, I just thought it'd be a little neater. {?}

You have questions - we have blank stares.

S March 7th 04 06:06 AM

thank you for flaming me.

i knew it would happen,

i just wanted to rant. and Mr. Dxluver. all i was trying to say was dont
blame the staff they are not trained to know every little part in the store.
if you want to get mad at someone get mad at the management, that is all.
the core profit is in the parts, but the quick profit turn is on service
providers (cell phones, etc) if you knew how the business was run and how
bonuses were made, you would not help the litle part customers either. if
their was more incentive for the parts and suh, more eplyees would pay
closer attention to them.

i know radioshack has bad business practices towards us "radio people" but
in the large picture we are a small niche they dont make much money on a
compared to others

as far as me working their during college, it was easy pocket money for a
20-30hr job that was flexible in schedule. try to find a good paying job
while in college not doing much today

i never lied to a customer, even though my manager and DM promoted it. they
hated me for not sellng stuff people didnt want/or need

i do post here quite often, under a different name though, sometimes it is
not worth a post on such stupid things like
what color to buy a ATS 909 in

Heh! Should've told him that World War II is over.

BTW, Rat Shack stopped carrying 1N34s a couple years ago, so your wild
goose chase would've been no good under the best of circumstances.

The weird thing was that the only 6' they had has one male end and one
female end. How do they expect me to plug it in? At least they had a
double male connector so I didn't have to worry about that.

When in doubt Tommyknocker, 'adapt.' You know...lol....thank the Lord
(literally) for them. My two adapters I got are doing the job exactly like I
was wanting, I 'almost' thought it couldn't be done, but it sounded so simple
I knew there had to be a way. :-)

DX Luver,

If you are a more Relaxed Person, then just let your 'external
antenna sleeve' lay as it may.

If you are more of a Neat-Type Person, then by all means made
a few loops and tie-it-off.

BUT - If you are an Excessive Compulsive Person, then your
'external antenna sleeve' MUST BE Coiled into Three 4" Loops
and Tied-off in Five Equally Spaced Places. This will 'ensure'
that ORDER is Maintained in the Universe :o)
