I can't believe the number of idiots in this group. Me included for trying
to help the people here. Even though I don't know *exactly* what post or incident you're talking about. I do agree with you....lol. That's when you just ignore them like I do. Of course, if you choose. Great info and page you have there Mike (I'm talking about the DX394.) Some people just don't get it. That's a super little receiver when modded out. Everyone talks about modding out their R75's and that's OK....lol. Like I told you before, I'll be getting with you on that 394 here shortly, between you and Tom actually. ;-) |

Yes, I suppose I'm an idiot for pointing out that you hadn't made an exciting discovery, and that there was no mystery. Guilty as charged. Well, I don't know about you, but I enjoy being an idiot in front of total strangers. It's very stressful masking my idiocy day-in day-out from people I know, and it's nice to have an outlet. |
Dear Mike,
I'm glad you mentioned this first! Maybe most of us are idiots, but what the hell...! These groups have been most helpful to many people. Infact, there are many users (possibly idiots) that frequent these groups who have degrees in everything from medicine to engineering. But, there are idiots in every field. So, I guess you're and idiot, me included, and all the others who come here to figure-chat over a screen and keyboard (in a sort of way) with others in almost every location in the world. I hope we all learned something here... -- Greetings, Jerry Greenberg =========== "mike maghakian" wrote in message ... I can't believe the number of idiots in this group. It's refreshing to find idiots who stay home and make posts from their
computers. Most of the idiots I encounter seem to enjoy driving on the streets and roads around me. The incredibly slow ones always seem to end up in front of me, and the outrageously fast ones always seem to end up behind me. |

I don't know: I've seen the degen 1102 in action against a number of high
class radios and the 1102 could sure as hell hold up just as well as the other $$$ ones. -John I like the ones who expect a $50.00 radio to perform like a $1500.00 radio and get mad when they find out that it does not. |

radio and get mad when they find out that it does not. I don't know: I've seen the degen 1102 in action against a number of high class radios and the 1102 could sure as hell hold up just as well as the other $$$ ones Perhaps some people expect such high-dollar performance from low-cost radios because other people make claims like John's (not that he's 'wrong', it's his opinion)... but I'd safely say that a Degen or Kaito 1102 radio would not satisfy me nearly as fully as the Drake R8B did, or the Icom R75 does, and while a lot of that qualification would necessarily be based on my listening needs as opposed to someone else's, there's a basic feature and design gap as well as price gap (which is why there's a price gap at all). Now, I'm not at all saying that cheap radios equal cheap performance *automatically* (most of us can testify to that based on our own experiences) but a lower-priced radio that was not designed with features, filtering and stability as a higher-priced radio will necessarily be different, and likely inferior overall, to the higher priced radio. But it's all relative. It's just that sometimes, a person will read a claim of "this cheaper radio works just as well as (big-rig-model-here) works" and accept it at face value, not considering the many factors which would cause such a claim from one reviewer or user. I do have to say that it's neat to see the number of cheaper radios available now which offer some surprisingly good listening for the buck. But many of these models have limitations (naturally) that mid-to-higher-priced radios don't have. The gap is narrowing, to be sure, but we're still a long way off from a pocket radio acting like a Watkins-Johnson. Linus |
yes..this is also true, I'm just saying from what I saw...the degen 1102 was
a fairly nice radio for its price. all valid points though -John Perhaps some people expect such high-dollar performance from low-cost radios because other people make claims like John's (not that he's 'wrong', it's his opinion)... but I'd safely say that a Degen or Kaito 1102 radio would not satisfy me nearly as fully as the Drake R8B did, or the Icom R75 does, and while a lot of that qualification would necessarily be based on my listening needs as opposed to someone else's, there's a basic feature and design gap as well as price gap (which is why there's a price gap at all). Most of the idiots I encounter seem to enjoy driving on the streets and
roads around me. The incredibly slow ones always seem to end up in front of me, and the outrageously fast ones always seem to end up behind me. I think I got you beat on that one. There were a few idiots here in one car who would get behind me and speed up super-fast , so that I had to speed up to avoid a wreck, and then they would pass me and pull in front of me and go super-slow so that I had to pass them to avoid a wreck, and then they would speed up super-fast behind me, then super slow in front of me (on the freeway). |
I like the ones who expect a $50.00 radio to perform like a $1500.00
radio and get mad when they find out that it does not. Well, that's probably close to me. I never expect ed a $50.00 radio to perform like a $1,500 radio, but I did expect the $500.00 I spent for an IC-R3 to perform like a $500.00 radio. which as I found out I was an idiot for expecting that. |
but I'd safely say that a Degen or Kaito 1102 radio would not
satisfy me nearly as fully as the Drake R8B did, or the Icom R75 does, Shoot, I KNOW (just by looking at the specs) it wouldn't hear what I already have here (receiver wise)...so why buy. I already have my little ones. DX399 /Bell&Howell / OMG transistor radio that is *very* tiny. Those are just the 'little' ones. Hey, if they want to spend the money and like it, fine. I'd rather have a good Hammarlund or another tube radio myself. |
It's just that sometimes, a person will read a claim of "this cheaper radio
works just as well as (big-rig-model-here) works" and accept it at face value, not considering the many factors which would cause such a claim from one reviewer or user. I agree. The only 'cheap' radio (money wise) and I have no idea why they are cheap that I own is my GE P780 that Brenda Ann sent me. Maybe because there is no wal wart and it is strictly BCB and it just has two screws on the back, one for the external wire and the ground. It takes six (I think) D cell batteries. But for basically $48-50 and that includes shipping, you can have one of..if not the best made (like a tank) BCB radios. I liked and was so impressed with my first one that I'm getting a second. Put it this way, so far, no loop has really improved a signal on it yet and it'd be the perfect radio if all he** broke loose, nuclear or whatnot to have with you. Plus you could actually use it for self defense, you hit someone with it and it's all over. Then you can listen about it on the radio. ;-) But that's my 'cheapie story'.....and I feel extremely fortunate to have two of them. If any of you are into BCB dxing and can get one in here or on ebay, do yourself a favor and grab it, you won't be dissapointed. **no FM or TV or shortwave, just BCB** |
I feel for ya. I know someone who has one :(

After experiencing several events like that, I now carry a camcorder in the car. I also have a bumper sticker on the rear window which reads, "Smile for the camera". -----= Posted via Newsfeeds.Com, Uncensored Usenet News =----- http://www.newsfeeds.com - The #1 Newsgroup Service in the World! -----== Over 100,000 Newsgroups - 19 Different Servers! =----- |
