Default New lower price for Tecsun PL550

I found a seller on eBay, Nilbee-Radio-Store, who has the PL550 listed with
a $49 starting bid and with a $59 "buy it now" price. So if you were able
to get the radio with a $49 bid, with his shipping at $14.99 + $1 insurance,
your total price would be just $64.99.

Liypn, however, lists this radio with a comparable "buy it now" price of
$59.90, but he doesn't offer a lower bid as an portion. So, to buy this
radio from Liypn, the radio is $59.90, shipping is $22, and insurance is $5,
and so your total price would be $86.90.

I've bought five radios from Liypn and I have had an excellent experience
each time. But if I was about to buy another radio and I could get from
another merchant for 34% less money, then I would probably go with the lower
price.

Anyway, here's the link to Nilbee's eBay sto

It looks like the 2nd guy inflates shiping charges so as to appear to have
a lower selling price.

Liypn is shipping from China, I've seen other Chinese shippers charge
similar prices as he does.

The other person is shipping from Illinois, and $15 seems way too high for
domestic shipping, but he's got to get those radios here to the US somehow.

Either way, our wonderful free market system of supply and demand will
eventually smooth out price differences.

The PL550 is still a new product with very little US publicity. There are
rumors that it might be remarketed to the US as the Eton E10 just as the
BCL2000 was remarketed as a Grundig S-350.

Either way, the PL550 looked like a fun radio so I am looking forward to
getting mine tomorrow or Friday.

Compare the feedback of each vendor. Liypn has 100% positives the last I
looked... and over 300 sales.
And also carefully examine the listing... is there an English maual like with Liypn's?
Is there an English version of the Chinese labels on the front of the radio?
Is a 110 to 220 volt converter included free?
Can the person selling from Nilbee's give you the quality and consistency of the
customer service you've already had from Liypn?

At THAT price I'd risk the purchase myself ! The antenna tuner feature
is what attracts me...anybody have one for feedback on that feature?

I ordered one from Liypn this week because I just had to try that antenna
tuner :-) I have a 200 ft long wire and a G5RV that I can hook it up too.
Either one of those antennas tends to overload just about any portable I've
ever hooked up to them. If the antenna tuner on the PL-550 has any merit,
I'll be able to tell for sure. Electronically speaking, I have no idea of
what it really is. My guess is that it probably works like a passive
preselector. When I get the radio, I'll be sure to post my review here once
I have a few days to use it.

I'm probably going to make my own pressure sensitive English labels for the
thing and stick them on there. I'm half wishing I waited for the US version
to show up, but I just had to get one ASAP :-)
