AFRTS Pearl Harbour
10320 Khz AFRTS Pearl Harbour received at this QTH @ 0500 Zulu with clear
ID. Quite unusual, as this 3 Kw TX is 18,500 kilometers from here (11,500 miles) and both the short and long path lies over the poles and the auroral belt. At this time of the year the signal gets a greyline boost, as it is sunset in Hawaii and sunrise in Montagu. -- John Plimmer, Montagu, Western Cape Province, South Africa South 33 d 47 m 540 s, East 20 d 07 m 541 s. BURR,
For AFRTS at 10.320 MHz from Hawaii. Try one of these two Antennas SLOPER: * Simple "Sloper" cut to about 97 Feet, that is 'Bottom Fed' with an angle of 30 Degrees and an Apex of about 48 Feet. * Position the "Sloper" so that the 'Slope of the Antenna' is facing in the direction of Hawaii. * Coax Cable Feed-in-Line with a Matching Transformer and Ground Rod at the Bottom Feed Point would help a lot. DIPOLE: * Simple "Dipole" cut to about 47.7 Feet, that is 'Center Fed' * Each Arm of the Dipole would be 23.8 Feet * Height of the Dipole between 23.8 to 47.7 Feet * Position the "Dipole" so that the 'Arms of the Dipole' are Perpendicular to the direction of Hawaii. (Broadside) * Coax Cable Feed-in-Line with a Balun and Ground Rod. iane ~ RHF .. .. = = = Burr wrote in message = = = ... It's 7:45 here and I'm trying both day and night from Hawaii, Nothing!!! FO&A, Another Kiwa MW Air-Core Loop Antenna just sold on eBay for $430. That's reasonable assuming it's working (no reason it wouldn't be that I know of). They work about as well as you can get a single loop to work, balanced and aimable to a fine degree, stable regeneration to narrow the bandwidth. For about $600 you can set up two active whips and an ANC-4 and do better than a single loop (or set up a whip and an active broadband loop with an ANC-4, so they can be co-located). So that would be an upper limit on what the Kiwa might bring, but below that it would still make sense. -- Ron Hardin On the internet, nobody knows you're a jerk. |

Yeah, they have good reviews. It would be great if we could see the circuit
diagram so we could homebrew them, perhaps the schematic is no longer a comany secret and they might let us have it? Richard "RHF" wrote in message m... It's in the manual that comes with the loop. You're paying for mechanical construction as much as anything, which minizes the received electrical field, which in turn deepens the nulls; and gives you the ability to aim the thing with precision as well. The particular regen circuit is very stable in addition, which must be from selection of components. As I said once, you do better up around this price range feeding an ANC-4 with two antennas with some goodly separation; I use McKay Dymek DA100E's. If they're big antennas, there's no need for them to be active, I guess. A loop (eg. Wellbrook ALA1530) and a whip can be co-located and combined in an ANC-4 instead. The ANC-4 trick gives you a V shaped null that you sweep from one endfire to the other. In the case of the loop+whip, endfire is in the plane of the loop. At endfire both legs of the V coincide; at broadside they open to a line. -- Ron Hardin On the internet, nobody knows you're a jerk. |
