"Brenda Ann Dyer" wrote in message ... ROTFLMAO!!!! Good one.. touche' :) But to answer your question, almost nobody (irregardless of whether they have talent on loan from God) is very good when they start out.. ;) I'm sure that even those famous debaters Mrs. Lincoln and Douglas started out as something less than stellar.. we all learn as we go.. (hard to learn any other way). :) Yeah, but couldn't Air America find some radio talent that's good right now? Real talent is a rare commidity, and most people who aren't good now will never be good. Why should Air America play proving ground for a bunch of grade B and C talent? And it's not like a host actually has to be a liberal to sound like a liberal. I suspect there's plenty of talented phonies to pick from. Frank Dresser |
"-=jd=-" wrote in message . .. Come to think of it, is Franken using his stage "delivery" on the radio? Whenever I've seen him on TV, his "delivery" is fairly subdued. Don't know if that would translate all that well on Radio where you can't see his facial expressions. Could be that he's doing his regular thing that always worked for him on TV, without realizing it may not work the same, or as well, on radio. Makes you wonder when you hear folks rating Franken as a big yawn so far... -=jd=- A subdued delivery isn't the best for talk radio, but I think the bigger problem is that Franken doesn't seem to have a real quick wit. He's a better writer than a talker. However, Harry Shearer has a fairly good laconic radio show. But he works from scripts. Frank Dresser |

Honestly, I gave it a chance, but No-Doz should not be a prerequisite for listening. I wanted Air America to be something, but it's just too boring to believe. I will certainly listen in a month or so - if they're still around. I'm sure that Rush and Hannity were no more entertaining when they started out.. I'm not sure that Hannity qualifies as entertaining even now, but how can you be sure what they were when they started out if you weren't tuned in (assuming that's the case)? BTW, I could be wrong, but I don't think the Air America hosts are exactly starting out, either. The fact that the network is new doesn't necessarily qualify the hosts as rookies. Franken, for one, has been honing his skills as a world class windbag on a level with the most gaseous conservative broadcasters for some time now. For my money I think Randi Rhodes is the best thing going on this network. Of couse that's a biased opinion since I've listened to her for years when she was broadcasting locally here in S. Florida. I can still hear her program out of West Palm Beach about 40 miles North of here with the help of a Radio Shack loop. Apparently her boss here thought enough of her to let her keep her time slot here and do her show out of New York. |

I don't know how Rush was in Sacremento, or how good he was as a DJ. Hannity has a far more limited range than Limbaugh and fewer tricks. I think most of the Air America hosts have similiar limitations. Hannity hasn't gotten any better in the year+ he's been on the air. Many years ago, I thought Al Franken was one of the funniest people
anywhere. SNL was my favorite show. I liked Al, Buck Henry, Steve Martin, Mr. Bill, etc. But now, at age 46, I find all of the above to be strangely lacking in humor. It's not that I've grown up or anything, it's just that my sense of humor back then was seriously chemically-enhanced. Now that I am sober, Al Franken doesn't impress me much any more. |
