I didn't last night, but I have many times before.

WBCQ is a national treasure for SWL's.

For me, he most enjoyable thing about WBCQ is that can tune it in once an
hour in any four consecutive hour

and it will seem like four different
radio stations -- you never know WHAT you'll hear on WBCQ

How true Stinger. In my living room listening post, I usually keep the DX-100
(my 1st receiver) tuned to it.

I did a little tuning on that piece tonight and have left it on for the last
three days in a row. I never noticed before but when I was listening to 'Amos
& Andy' the other night, another station was pretty close.

I switched it to ssb and tuned the bfo and then the fine tuning and it was
'crystal'..and I mean crystal clear. ...completely got rid of that station.

Brought back the joy of using my first piece. What do you think about just
leaving a receiver on all the time? A friend of mine said "it wouldn't hurt
it".....but my thinking is "why have it on if I'm not home or thirty miles
away?"

Once it warms up good (hour or two) it doesn't drift, so I don't see the
thinking in leaving it on all the time unless I want a short lived mint DX100.
;-)

But back to WBCQ, it really is one of the finest going around the bands IMO.
BTW, I have the DX399 next to the 100 in case I gotta know the exact freq.:-)
That's a hot little receiver in its own rite.

I have high hopes that WRMI in Miami will follow their lead.

I know I've heard them or about them. What does the letters stand for and
where are they on the dial?

Thanks:-)

WRMI stands for "Radio Miami International."

They have a nice webpage he http://www.wrmi.net/ , and they broadcast on
7385, 9955, and 15725 kHz.

You can see their broadcast pattern he
http://www.wrmi.net/images/100_nacovg.jpg (also linked on their main page).

As I mentioned before, the IBC radio network used to broadcast over WRMI,
and they had some interesting listening. You can see their schedule he
http://www.ibcradio.com/radioschedule.htm . They have a lot of
paranormal-themed programs like Whitley Strieber's "Dreamland" and "The Lou
Gentile Show" which are interesting if you're a fan of broadcasts like Art
Bell's. It's "Midnight Radio," but you don't have to stay up as late.

If you click on "How to Listen" and then "Shortwave" it says that they're on
7.330 MHz 24/7. However, I've checked in a couple of times and I have yet
to hear them there. The only listings I see for that freq. are from some
Russian-based broadcasters.

Is he saying that only 10,000 people listen to the station?

That's not much of an audience.

He figured 10,000 people were listening to the show last night.

10,000 listeners is pretty good compared to the # of people
now listening to Howard Stern

I should imagine that a much greater number than 10,000 still listen to
Howard Stern. Crummy Channel dropped him from the 6 stations of theirs that
were carrying him.. but Infinity is still carrying him, as they are the ones
that hold his contract..

Stern still has several hundred thousand listeners in NYC alone.

My 706 is on nearly 24 hours a day. The only time I turn it off is to
clean my battery connections, or lightning scares...At the moment, my
TS-830 is on too...
A scanner I have is on 24/7 too...It's never off, and sits on the
local PD freq, in case hoodlums are in the area...I heard a police
chase that ended 4 blocks away last night...

Once it warms up good (hour or two) it doesn't drift, so I don't see the

It's kind of a two way street the way I see it. Both methods have
advantages...It stresses componants to see a inrush when turned on. So
turning something on a lot of times is stressful. But leaving
something on all the time does add some wear usually heat related to
caps, and semiconductors probably do age faster when running, than
when not. But overall, I prefer that to a constant life of inrushes.
"turning something on, many times". I also leave my puter and monitor
on about 24/7. In the case of my radio, I am listening to it nearly
constantly, so it's not a waste. It's also my usual "everyday" ham
rig, so it gets used that way also. With a solid state portable, the
voltages, etc are low, and the thing will probably last for a long,
long time no matter how you use it. It would not bother me at all to
leave it on all day. I don't even think they build up much heat...But
I'm not familiar with that particular radio...Tube rigs, if I use them
a lot, I prefer to leave them on. When I ran drake twins as my usual
ham rig, they were on 24/7. MK
