I can read and speak passable Spanish... however, hearing so many sw broadcasts in Spanish makes me want to brush up so that I can understand more than every few words that's being said. Spanish is easy for me to read, but more difficult to understand when it's being spoken rapid-fire by a native speaker. Sort of the same thing with French. Very easy language for me to read, but even more difficult than Spanish to understand when spoken. FWIW, I took Dakota (Sioux) Indian. I still bring out the old dictionaries now and then to keep up on my understanding. As you may imagine, I don't find too many people to talk to using Dakota, but it's still far from a dead language.
