Hi Dan.
I think it's a little big. I'd recommend the PL-200.
Judah Smith did a good review of the PL-230,
with pictures...

They work off the same manual... the one for the Grundig YB-550PE.
They both recharge batteries in the radio, but the YB-550 doesn't.
I like the PL-200 because of its size... if you saw the pic I put in the
Yahoo group you can tell its size relative to a Bic lighter... small.

Yeah, small / shirtpocket is good for walking around
How does it work with an external antenna, btw...?

The PL-200 has a 3 setting antenna gain. That's all I use, off the whip.
Works great.
But I'll test it with my random wire.

FO&A,

FYI - GrundigRadio.Com (ETON Corp.) has REMOVED the Grundig
Yacht Boy 550 PE's Owner's Manual form their website.

Thanks Roy. Good to know, but bad news for anyone wanting it
as a reference.

I'm glad I downloaded it months ago.

I have one of the Grundig versions of this radio. This is my "going to
sleep" radio. Like most radios, it has a sleep timer that can be set to
whatever range you desire. But this one has very soothing sound and the
volume fades a bit (but not too much) when a signal does, which makes easy
to go to sleep by. It doesn't seem to generate as much internal noise as my
1102. And my Grundig is very easy to operate in the dark. Sure, it has a
night light, but it only comes on when you press the light button on top of
the radio. It goes off a few seconds later, or you can make it stay on
indefinitely by simply holding the light button for a couple of seconds. The
1102, however, is much more difficult to operate in the dark. It has a very
nice night light system, but sometimes I would rather not have the light
come on any time a button on the 1102 is pressed. The light on the 1102 can
be disabled, but it's really tough for me to navigate its tuning system
without its light being on.
