Default 4790 khz time signal?

Around 4:30 UTC, I could (faintly) hear what sounded like a time signal,
with double beeps for about 45 seconds, then single beeps for 15 seconds,
then repeating. It seemed like the pulses were spaced a little closer than
one second, though. Anyone know if this would be the "time signal" Russian
station that some people think is related to some russian military system?
I used to be able to find samples and descriptions of these kind of things
he (http://dspace.dial.pipex.com/brogers/page6.html) but the website is
now gone.

There is an "Over the horizon" radar that sweeps back and forth, at 4.8 Mhz.
It sweeps at a little faster than once a second.

That's a CODAR station for measuring wave height at sea.

I don't think you are hearing a time signal station. Perhaps a idling utility
station of some sort.

I'm not sure where you are located, but a check of a grey line map for 0430 would
indicate that 4790 would not propagate very well, or at all from Russia at that
time to the USA.
