Eton E1 XM Radio....price ideas ??? satellite service for.....

Any idea what the Eton E1 XM radio is going to sell for when it hits the
market ???

Also...

How exactly does satellite service for portable radio work ??? Is there a
release code that you punch up into the radio once you've paid for the
service or a card with an electronic code on it that you stick into the
radio someplace ???

If they are anything like the satellite radios they sell here in Korea, they
are addressable, like a cable box. You give them the serial number or MAC
number off the receiver and they enable it over the satellite.

By the time it hits the market, currency as we know it will cease to
exist. For that matter, radios will cease to exist.

The radio has a unique serial number so it can be programmed over the air.
When purchased new, an XM receiver can only get a "preview" channel and
one sample channel from each category (e.g. country, rock, talk radio,
etc). When you subscribe, you furnish your radio's serial number and leave
it running for a while. The remaining channels are enabled and then you
have full service for as long as you subscribe.

I can't believe there are still people who use the phrase "when it
hits the market" regarding this phantom radio. It doesn't take 10
years to produce a radio, folks.

Meaning it will never be available ???

Meaning it's been coming RSN for 10 years. Do you know how many
times it's "release" has been announced, only to be "delayed" another
quarter or 2? What makes you think that this time, it's *really*
coming?

Meaning that the phrase "when it's released" should not be used when
referring to this radio. "If it's ever released" is more accurate.

Meaning that by the time it's "nearing release", there will be another
new radio technology that will need to be incorporated into this
"everything including the kitchen sink" radio - like DRM. So it will
need to be "delayed" again. Lather, rinse, repeat.

Let me guess... You want one too ???
