i'm learning here every day. have the sat800; i will
use for the major broadcasters. got 4 sets of head phones,
mostly older types. i want the Drake speaker; looks so
cool as a set. i want the R8B to chase DX. so, the head-
phones will get a workout. maybe try some new/ even cordless
and hear what i like best. i get a real kick when Ace and
the group report the rare finds. got a high freq. hearing loss,
so, phones it is. now i'm really looking forward to my retir-
ment. all the years i carried a portable to catch a-bit here
and there will be over. thanks to you all, i now have 2 good
longwires(e-w/n-s). a great radio on the way. now i just
count down the days. thanks guys...

I'd pass on that MS8 speaker if I were you. Yes, it does look nice as a
set, much like the MS7 speaker looks nice as a set with the R7. Forget
it... either get a MS-4 or find something else.

Neither one is worthy of the set(s).

Been there, done that... do have a Drake t-shirt!

got one last hamfest in WPA 9/12 at Butler. see what
i can find there. at the spring fest there was a guy
with a complete R7 station. by the time i got through
the gang around his table, another guy was packing it
up. looked like a ten out of ten. i collect T-shirts.
love to have a Drake shirt...

Contact BFrost AT rldrake.com about the t-shirt.

I was talking to him the other day, they are stilll available.

I may just order a few more myself.

That is because the internal speaker is only OK. The radio will sound
better with an outboard speaker or headphones.

Not aimed at you, just a general rant:

Audio is nice, but why is it that the same people who complain about
less-than-audiophile-quality audio in shortwave receivers seem to
coincide with the people who complain about big receivers? It seems
like people are expecting a one-ounce, three-inch, fifty-watt speaker
with perfectly flat response from 10 to 100,000 Hz, and a fifty-watt
amplifier that nurses two AAA batteries for thirty weeks.

Really, how many radios do NOT give reasonably good audio through
headphones, or through an external amplifier/speaker, *especially*
those with synchronous detection?

Both Kerry and Edwards announced their candidacy near the beginning of September,
2003, so let's only count votes before then. From January, 2003, to August, 2003,
Senator Edwards didn't vote 69 out of 320 opportunities (~22%) and Senator Kerry
didn't vote 182 out of 320 opportunities (~57%). http://www.mwilliams.info/archives/001349.php
