They were new batteries, in use no more than a couple of weeks. One battery
leaked--not the mineral stuff you would expect, but a caustic brown liquid--caustic enough to remove the silver finish from the battery compartment cover and the case in the vicinity. I've never seen anything like it. The RS salesman looked at the code on the battery carton and acknowledged that the batteries were recently sold. And, they are clearly marked Radio Shack batteries. And, the radio is new and clean. "Brian Denley" wrote in message news:N2k5d.51604$wV.47566@attbi_s54... I would be satisfied with a refund for the batteries and a new radio--since a repair would probably cost more than the radio. How long were the batteries in there? If many months then it's your fault. -- Brian Denley http://home.comcast.net/~b.denley/index.html |

If need be ask for the manager and he just may replace the radio. I
don't know what kind of warranty they have on their batteries. They DO sell Grundig radios so it should be little trouble for them to pull a YB400 off the shelf and install new batteries for you. The average salesman may not have the authority to make that decision. Perhaps you should photograph the radio & especially the battery compartment and batteries - very well - in case they have second thoughts about taking care of the problem. Don't even present the photos to them unless they balk on making a satisfactory correction to the situation but then you could very gently let them know that the situation is documented. Be SURE that it is before you approach them. I've found most of them to be pretty reasonable when approached reasonably, especially for good customers! ;-) Al You got questions. We got answers. "I do'n know." ;-) =========== V65MagnaFan wrote: They were new batteries, in use no more than a couple of weeks. None, as far as damage to the device is concerned. Replacement or refund on the batteries is all the warranty they have. They DO sell Grundig radios They do until they run out. They are clearing them out now and are getting harder to find. I had to go to three stores a couple of weeks ago to find one. so it should be little trouble for them to pull a YB400 off the shelf and install new batteries for you.
