Make sure you are using USB. Your best bet would probably be in the afternoon, on the higher frequencies. dxAce Michigan USA |
Lucky:
I had to try a bunch of frequencies before I found one that worked; look in this list for linconshire poacher...( here some) Hearin LP at 2000 s/on on 11545 an 10426. 10426 very weak. Heard a test tone on 11545 starting at 1949. I've heard these test tones prior to s/on on other frequencies/times as well. Also heard here at 20:15. Audible on 10426 but there is heavy QRN. It is stronger on 11545 with minimal QRN. I'm in Florida, and for the life of me, I can't get this poacher in. Can anyone recommend a frequency and time for me? Does the broadcast start exactly on the hour and how long does it last?

I don't get one frequency in so far. I'm in USB and I get good signals
otherwise. I'll catch it eventually. Lucky "dxAce" wrote in message ... dxAce wrote: Lucky wrote: Well, so far I get nothing. It merely depends on what frequencies LP is using, and the propagation conditions at the time from Cyprus, the supposed location of LP. I've been hearing them on all frequencies used since start-up this morning at 1200. The ONLY time I might have a problem here with one or more of the frequencies used is if LP shifts to something like 5xxx MHz in my early afternoon, when the signal might not propagate. dxAce Michigan USA |
Typically during the afternoon high frequencies are used... reception
not always too good during those times. Better to listen during the late-afternoons. dxAce wrote in message ... dxAce wrote: Lucky wrote: Does the broadcast start exactly on the hour and how long does it last? Some, like me, may wonder what the Linconshire Poacher is. I found the
following at http://home.luna.nl/~ary/lp.htm On the 27th February 2000 the Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation (CyBC) broadcast a TV story on Numbers Stations. With help from Cypriot radio amateurs, reporter George Georgiou managed to prove, using signal strength and DF, that Lincolnshire Poacher is transmitting from a RAF Unit in the SBA in Akrotiri. But, as DF showed, there could be another two, smaller transmitters somewhere in the Middle East. The main transmission, though, emanates from the RAF Unit in Akrotiri. The site of transmission is the 12 Signals Unit of the RAF. Its installations include many facilities, and LP is just a small part of them. It's a very big site, so you can only see a part of it in the pictures. The location of the Unit is in the British Sovereign Base Area of Akrotiri (in the south of Cyprus) and the exact location is just next to the village of Akrotiri. It is an ideal place for transmissions, with the sea surrounding the Unit. in addition, there is also a salt lake nearby. The info and pictures on this site come from George Georgiou, TV reporter with the Cyprus Broadcasting Corporation (CyBC). (Its a great site, have a look at the pictures). |
Poacher can be found here if you haven't seen it
already: http://www.simonmason.karoo.net/page14.html Heard at my QTH in Cincinnati at 2200 on 5746 and 6959. That was a simple one. |

Beats me, but it's incorrect.
Incorrect to me would mean that the LP didn't sign on at that time and on those freqs. But they did. ;-) |
GO BEARCATS wrote: Beats me, but it's incorrect. Incorrect to me would mean that the LP didn't sign on at that time and on those freqs. But they did. ;-) Well, I checked 5746 after receiving your post and they were not there. They were however on 11545, 9251 and 6959 at 2200 s/on as monitored here. I've not known them to use more than 3 frequencies at once, nor have I seen any loggings that would suggest that they do. You did post your observation under a URL for a schedule that is known to be incorrect. As I stated before, beats me. It might have been an error. dxAce Michigan USA |
Hi dxAce
It looks like I can't get LP down here. At least not since I've been trying. I'm no lame even though I'm only doing "our thing" for 8 months. But, I've learned a great deal and have good equipment. I guess I have to catch him under the best conditions. Hey, I pick up plenty of good DX stations down here in Florida but no luck for Lucky so far with LP. Lucky "dxAce" wrote in message ... OK!
Finally heard her on 15682 but, I had to use the 4Khz AM filter to hear it. Very, very faint. I could make out the tune well but the numbers were hard to recognize. Thanks. I find it amazing I'm picking this up from England. I wonder what
receiver these use themselves to get the code. I'm also surprised no one has broken the code yet to some degree. Lucky "dxAce" wrote in message ... Lucky wrote: OK! That's still nice and far away though. Ever hear any CIA transmissions?

( & Congratulations, BTW ) - I don't think the transmitters in England; I think in Cypress ( Do A google search on Linconshire Poacher ) And , they're probably using a " One Time Pad" snyched for a specific day .. probably short messages anyway; no time to have a real conversation...
