Default Satelite 800 vs. ATS 909

I have a Sangean 909, but have found a Satelite 800 selling for 350
bucks. Please advise, will I be better served with the 800, or no? Thank
You

For broadcast listening, yes... Great audio :-) Not to mention the sync
detector. For travel... Ummm.. No :-) The Sat 800 sounds great, but it
is too big for a carry on...

Yes, much nicer overall for listening on the 800. Not
that big of a surprise, since it's got the guts of the
Drake SW8 inside.

Please tell me you never carried around a boom box
(or ghetto blaster, depending on what part of the country
you lived in) when you were younger. Back when
I was a teen, just about everyone had one of those
suckers, and they all weighed about the same as the
800.

Of course, boom box vs. iPod..... I think the iPod wins
as far as easy of carrying and volume of songs vs.
the cassette capability of the boom box. ;-)

Yes, if the knobs don't fall off.

I had one for several days along with a 909 and the 800 is better in
every respect except portability. If it's used, $350 seems a bit
steep though.

The 800 is a better general purpose receiver than the 909 but $350 is
too much for a used 800 unless it's practically new. You can buy a
factory refurbished 800 for $399 from Universal Radio. This is a good
way to get a reliable 800 which has been checked out by Drake. They made
the SW8, which was the predecessor for the 800 circuit design.

This is a factory refurbished model. With shipping, it lays at your
doorstep for 396 bucks. The retailer is Heartland America Dot Com.

That's a good deal. I bought one from Heartland to evaluate the 800. I
didn't intended to keep it. The radio worked fine.

How much if you bring it in and connect it to power?

I've seen drunks do that for free.

Because she didn't want him growing up to be like Bush and Cheney?

No, because his own mother recognized he had a problem. Drop the smarmy
attitude for a minute and think about it.
