Default Ten-Tec DISASTER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

YOU WILL BE SORRY IF YOU BUY FROM TEN-TEC

here is what my friend with the RX-340 is going through after he sent
them his 340

Can you believe that they do not return my phone calls and have not
responded to my emails inquiring how they are coming along with my
radio's problem? they have had the unit for five weeks so far. I
have no problem with being patient and allowing them to have plenty of
time to resolve the problem--I, in fact, do NOT want them to rush it.
But not to email me with a quick "here's where we stand so far, Dean"
update is inexcusable. I can't in good faith ever ever recommend
TenTec to anyone!

Interesting comment, Captain. I have a friend who was at the recent Grayland
WA DXpedition who didn't get his RX340 back from Ten-Tec service dept. in
time for his trip, despite them promising they would make the date. The
receiver is still sitting in their facility, awaiting troubleshooting. My
friend had to make the calls to them each time, to see what's up.

I would think if you spent nearly $4000 US. on a consumer-grade receiver the
manufacturer would have more responsive customer service! In the past I've
heard that Ten-Tec treats customers excellently, but perhaps their
reputation is slipping.

'Borrowed' one of those RX340's for a few weeks to try it out. IMHO it was a
'nice' radio. However, it was certainly not worth the price tag.

They kicked and screamed a bit, but they took it back.

Ten-Tec? Never again.

Just my 2 cents worth.

I have always taken those glowing reports regarding TT with a grain of salt.
There are all sorts of shills out there.

If this is true, it's a recent development. I got treated very well
when visiting Ten-Tec. And, no, I didn't get paid to write this. In
fact, I left the tentec mailing list on contesting.com because of all
the rah-rahing going on in it. PWBR said last year or the year before
that T-T had some government project they were working on that was
keeping them from putting out updates to the RX-350. Maybe it's true.
Who knows?

First of all sorry to hear of the RX340 having a problem. Care to share what
the problem is?

I am a BIG Ten Tec fan & have had nothing but good luck with them. I have
bought manyl radios from them.New & used. Some I have kept some I have sent
back with the 30 day return policy.

I'm not sure about emailing them but if you need help in the service dept.
call & ask for Paul Clinton. He is the service manager. I am very suprised
he could not tell him when he would be working on his radio. Scott or Stan
in sales are also very helpfull.

The 340 I own now....that I did not buy from tentec.....did not have the
latest rev of firmware chips in it. I called Paul & he sent me the new
chips. It took 2 days & of course there was NO CHARGE. That has happened with
other parts many times in the past.

Maybe some of my luck comes from the fact I live in KY & talk "tenaseeeun"
real well.

I am a very satisfied customer after owning 11 TenTec radios.

Just my opinion of course.

73, Ken

There is a TenTec mail list:

Not sure exactly how you subscribe but think it is:

or

Just to be sure you might also put the word subscribe as the subject.

I haven't read the list much lately, but most of what I have heard about
Ten-Tec is superb. Don't know if they've had a management change or
what this particular problem is, but I'd subscribe to the list and check
it out for a while. You might want to contact them at
http://www.tentec.com/ Their 800 # is there, as well as fax and one
other one.

Their FAQ gives the following info:

Begin quote:

MAIN PHONE NUMBER (any department can be reached through this number,
including the tool-and-die shop, purchasing, radio sales, enclosure
sales, service and repairs, and kit building tech support):

(865) 453-7172 - 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mon-Fri Eastern time.

AMATEUR, COMMERCIAL, AND MILITARY RADIO SALES ONLY:

(800) 833-7373 - 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Mon-Fri Eastern time.

end quote:

I have done business with and have owned
Ten-Tec products since 1978 and I have
*never* had a problem with their Service
Department. In fact, they have been the
most helpful and easiest people to work
with with regards to any ham radio or SWL
related supplier. When I have had problems
with a Ten-Tec product, they have gone the
provebial "extra mile" on every occasion once
even sending me a replacement and aligned
PCB for my Omni-D at a flat rate swap 1-for-1
charge which was under $50. (I wish that Yaesu
and Kenwood Service was as professional and
friendly as Ten-Tec!

I have great difficulity believing your story OM.
Methinks it reeks of sour-grapes from
a generally sour dispositioned individual....
