Hello from Hilversum,

It has been quite an eventful week. On Tuesday, Dutch filmmaker Theo van
Gogh was killed in the street in Amsterdam, and the story made headlines
around the world. As in the case of the murder of Pim Fortuyn, Radio
Netherlands found itself covering a national story that only a few years ago
would have been unthinkable. The story shared the front pages of Wednesday's
Dutch newspapers with the US election. And the outcome of that election is
the basis for this week's feature article:

Getting the cleaners in

So, the American voters (or, at least, the 60% who bothered to turn out)
have made their choice. George W Bush gets another four years in the White
House. Based on what happened in the last four years, the electronic media
could be in for a highly eventful time. And, because the US is such a big
media market, the effects will also be felt here in Europe and elsewhere.
But will the President be able or willing to do anything about cleaning up
the Internet?

New Web site coming soon

It's planned that our new-look English Web site will go live the week after
next. It's a bit like moving house - every time you think you've got
everything accounted for, something else turns up. But we're getting close
now. More details next week.
