Radio Flyer November 6th 04 09:01 PM

There are are plenty of groups specialized to talk on political and
other topics. If you want political, geographical or sexual talk go to the
related group(s)!
Newsgroups are related on themes. And rrs is related on _receiving_ not on
_contetnt_ of transmissions. Period.
It's fine to point out what you're actually hearing on shortwave or other
freqs. But if you want to discuss on non receiving related content make a
follow-up to the related group. Thanks.

That is not true. Read the charter and you will see that this is an open
group that is not strict about posting on topic.

A newsgroup with a special topic is to prefer over any other usegroup it
may be a "special part" of.
With other words: Any topic a special newsgroup exists for, is offtopic
everywhere(!) else. This is how newsgroups _basically_ work. Take it.

That may be your opinion but it is incorrect.

Just to clarify... Not that there is anything wrong with that. Just
that the DIVERSITY of what is discussed here produces a more lively

Not a problem, jd. I just had a bit of an epiphany. JuLIE
is a child, or has the mentality of a child, and has no sense of
control over her/his/its environment. Upon re - reading the
aforementioned post, I see just what you're saying.

Too, I notice JuLIE isn't posting here - could her/his/its
verizon.net account have been suspended for TOS violations?

No. It's basics how usenet functions.

My guess is that she is late 40's or early 50's, grossly overweight and
hasn't been in a relationship for 10 years. It certainly would explain a
few things ;-).

Top 10 to you. I do hope that the people at verizon are listening.

Yep!
Discussion about *broadcasts* and NOT about *_content_ of broadcasts*.
Every content you wish to discuss you can find for sure a specialized
newsgroup for.
Except the content itself is focussed on the own or others transmission
like dx/listeners-information or broadcast schedules etc.
You want to discuss on the content of the numbers-stations, right?

Steve November 7th 04 03:56 PM

I realize that people will post whatever they want to post, but there
are groups dedicated to the discussion of politics and I *wish* that
more of the political stuff would be directed there. In fact, it seems
to me that that would be better for those posting political stuff,
since your posts will then be read by more people who are interested
in discussing politics. It would also help poor SWLers like me, who
want to be able to see the on-topic posts here without having to wade
through tons of off-topic posts. I wouldn't mind if a political post
popped up once in a while, but it doesn't seem like this group is
really about shortwave at all anymore.

Just my two cents!

Keyboard In The Wilderness November 7th 04 04:29 PM

Many true blue SWLers have long since left this NG and are now on other
groups, some moderated.
See URL:
http://groups.yahoo.com/search?query=shortwave

Where you will find dozens of SWL groups

Example Yahoo shortwave-radio
Discussion group for people who like to listen to and log shortwave radio
stations from around the globe, here you can exchange frequencies and
discuss the radios and receivers available for this interesting hobby. Has
877 members !

Another SWL group is for SWL antennas -- has 1328 members !
Shortwave-SWL-Antenna
This focus of this Group on YAHOO! is the Shortwave (SW) Antenna; the Medium
Wave (MW) Antenna and the FM Radio Antenna: Theory, Design, Construction,
Use and Application for Shortwave (Radio) Listeners (SWL) and Medium (Radio)
Wave Listeners. Medium Wave is better know as the AM Radio Broadcast Band
(BCB). The FM Radio Band (87-108 MHz) because it is Very High Frequency
(VHF) has its own unique antenna considerations. In some parts of the world
all of these forms of radio listening are called

And there are hundreds (thousands ?) of Yahoo groups devoted to politics
where readers are really interested in politics.

Except for the dozen or so regular political types here, I doubt most
readers of rec.radio.shortwave care about the political rants or even read
them, but it is unmoderated -- so there you go, quit complaining about an
unmoderated NG and get on one that stays on topic.
