I like this stream b/c its so different in focus at least part time. Satellite radio is available here, mostly used by truckers who are going day and night, and people north of 60 (in the NWT and Nunavut) where you can't get much other than CBC-northern service (if that). I have gotten them on 19 meters on 15,400 and 16 meters such as 17,830. I can hear "The world at 6" locally at 4 p.m. (2200 UTC) on 6090, which actually for N Quebec and the eastern arctic. Problem with northern reception is those pesky northern lights I guess. We're getting sun from 9:30 to 3:30 at this time of year. Lots of aurora activity this fall. Bad reception last night, very good this morning. More snow coming today too. Low overnight -13C, 8F. Pretty nice for this time of year. |

We get into the -40's (same for F and C) for 6-8 weeks sometime in mid-Dec to early Feb. So yes, this is quite nice right now. It all depends on what you compare to! We had -54C (-65F) one day last year. Things get very still and sound travels extremely well outside when if gets cold. You can dress to be outside for just about anything. Cars, on the other hand, really hate it when it gets that cold. I've always felt that radio reception is better when it's colder. I don't know that this is really true or the explanation. |

I wouldn't say it comes in very well, but it's often just as good as 9525 or 5975 on a poor day. These days it seems to be S1 to S3 on the meter, relativly low noise and interference from 15290/15295? is not a problem on a better receiver. It starts an hour earlier during a boring time of day, and is on the East Asian track (same as 9740, the morning frequency) so the programs are different, and sometimes you can catch one you missed on the Caribbean targeted broadcasts. Check out all the places where "Big AL Capone" visited. It is not confirmed that Al Capone actually ever was in Moose Jaw. His people likely were. The "tunnels tour" is quite a tourist draw though. The tunnels run all over under the downtown and were used for bootlegging. They've fixed up the downtown quite nicely, until the big fire last April. They'll rebuild. They've also got a mineral spa and a casino. |

Strangely, I've found US TV reception to be really good in the middle of summer when it gets really hot. I think it has to do with the amount of sun you're getting. Up in Canada you don't get a lot of sun in wintertime.
