-23C last night (-9F). It's got to be -30C (-22F) before we really start
whining. We get into the -40's (same for F and C) for 6-8 weeks sometime
in mid-Dec to early Feb. So yes, this is quite nice right now. It all
depends on what you compare to! We had -54C (-65F) one day last year.
Things get very still and sound travels extremely well outside when if
gets
cold. You can dress to be outside for just about anything. Cars, on the
other hand, really hate it when it gets that cold. I've always felt that
radio reception is better when it's colder. I don't know that this is
really true or the explanation.

Strangely, I've found US TV reception to be really good in the middle of
summer when it gets really hot. I think it has to do with the amount of
sun you're getting. Up in Canada you don't get a lot of sun in
wintertime. OTOH, a California summer has 15 hours of sunlight.

Summer at the 53rd parallel of lattitude: rises around 4 a.m., sets about
10:30 pm. Lots of sun here in the summer.

I canoed one summer on the Clearwater-Athabasca system: this is close to 60
deg N. In June the sun set about 12 midnight and this flowed right into
the sunrise at abuot 1:30 a.m.

Winter sunny day means it'll be cold. Cloudy means warmer. Wind not
welcome anytime (windchill).

They either are having transmitter trouble or they have changed their
schedule.

5975 is still active, I heard it tonight, albeit with lots of QRM
probably from flourescent lights. I got a better signal on 9525. This
was around 0300. I haven't tried 11835, I will tomorrow night, but 11835
may be a summer freq, meaning it would be inactive now.

11835 is a summer frequency.

I have heard 5975 since then at their usual signal levels. They were
missing for that one night.

Two nights. I think it was Tuesday (?02:00 UTC, 11/24) that they
were on 6195 again. Might have been Monday.
