A 4" speaker in a closed back plastic box sounds very pleasant. Avoid 2-way speakers has they just make the noise louder. I think it depends. I have a pair of Radio Shack Minimus-7's that I picked up here and there at a garage sales, and I'd use them over a lot of the speakers that come with cheaper all in one stereos. They are my "computer speakers" and I use them with an amplifier from a small bookshelf system that I paid five dollars for. But I left the speakers there, since they most definitely were not better than the Minimus-7s. at this time i am using an AOR AR5000A+3 the extension speaker i am using is
an AIWA centre speaker of a surround sound speaker system the sound is crystal clear.....look on ebay you can pic centre speakers up for a really cheap amount. and there are all kinds of makes. if you have a surround sound system in your home try the centre speaker if your happy with the results then buy one to use on your receiver. and replace your own one back with your hifi..
