Hi John,
My recently acquired IC-756Pro is very similar to the 756ProII, and I'm very pleased with it. I don't find the audio tiring at all to listen to.. it's not as sweet-sounding as the AR7030's, R390A, and RA6790GM receivers I've owned, but it sounds fine through a good speaker. I use the "Soundssweet" communication speaker with the receivers here-- http://www.soundssweet.com What *is* sweet with the 756Pro is the way it digs out the DX. It's very quiet, with amazing digital filter, super-deep & sharp notch filters, a DSP noise reduction section that works without muffling the audio much, and that useful & attractive spectrum display scope. The DSP filters (51 possible bandwidths on SSB) are extremely sharp with excellent ultimate rejection. It's neat to see a DX signal rise up out of the noise on the scope, or to watch the sweeping, swishing "CODAR" signals on 60 meters. You can also observe different patterns to various noise bursts and local RFI on the scope as well as see any LSB/USB modulation differences or imbalances on stronger signals. The scope is a very addicting feature! My 756Pro has the MW attenuator mod, and the scope is sensitive enough to show weak TP mediumwave DX fading up between the local 10-kHz channels. I can't see why Dave Zantow rated this transceiver so low on his "Davez's Receiver Pages". After reading all the other reviews and comments on the web about the 756Pro / 756ProII, I'm in agreement with most of the positive comments. Guy Atkins Puyallup, WA USA mod. R-75 & mod. This rig will give you unparalleled opportunities for pulling in that really weak DX from the remotest weak stations. The rumor is that there will soon be available a receive-only version of
the 756 Pro II, from a German distributor. Anyone know anything about this? |
