Kenwood R5000 Filter advice
i have a Kenwood R5000 i know this unit has the VHF converter fitted.
i think this has had extra filters fitted my reason fir thinking this is the case is as follows... on the receiver there is a five position selectivity switch. in the manual there is a print of the receiver and on this switch the writing next to each position reads position 1 = auto " 2 = N " 3 = M1 " 4 = M2 " 5 = W somebody has added more numbers next to each position and they now read Position 1 = auto " 2 = N 500 has been added " 3 = M1 1.8 has been added " 4 = M2 2.4 has been added " 5 = W 6.0 has been added does this mean that the extra filters have been added to this R5000 is there any other way i can tell what filters have been fitted to this receiver......were are the filters mounted internally in this receiver Hope somebody can advise me...... |

the filters are there large silver filters i can see it on the main board
when the cover is removed...... and also when i use various modes and turn the selectivity switch the tone changes. in the manual it says that the following filters are fitted YK-88C and YK-88SN...these various setting are for usb / lsb / cw / fsk / am / and fm is fixed at 12hz. i am looking to sell this receiver its in 100%working order. the condition is ok has a few marks nothing serious.... serious offers taken on this receiver.. I had one for several years. As an additional thought, what I did when I got the radio was to swap out the stock 6 kHz filter for a better aftermarket one that had better skirt selectivity. The original is just a bit broad at 60 dB down. Cleaned things up quite nicely. dxAce Michigan USA |

i have a few receivers hear i use my newest is a new version of the AOR AR5000A+3 i also have the matching SDU5600 FFT Display unit.....this takes pride of place in my radio room..... i also have the Kenwood R5000. i also have an icom IC-R7000. i had two IC-R7000 ,s but i sold one of them a couple of weeks ago for £280.. the IC-R7000 still fetch a very good price... i am not sure was there two versions of the IC-R7000 as the one i still have. the writing were it says ICOM IC-R7000 communications receiver the writing is smaller on this one than it was on the other one i sold....do you think this could be a later model...... i have a few other receivers i have collected over the years but not sure exactly what they are its years since i had them out they are well stored to protect them.....i will get them out one day when i have time spare.... I don't know about the '7000 issue. You might want to try a check on rec.radio.swap or perhaps contact Universal Radio, Fred Osterman might be able to answer that question for you as to which one is the later model. That spectrum display unit sounds nice, would be especially useful for utility monitoring. dxAce Michigan USA |

Kenwood had an improved 6 Hz filter available right from the start (YK88A1) and many buyers of the receiver upgraded to this filter at the time of purchase. My 'stock' (poor) 6KHz am filter still sits in the box that the good YK88A1 came packaged in.
