Must be a regional thing. Although I've yet to see a kitchen without *some* kind of clock, it seems like our "main" clock was always the one on the mantle, or the grandfather clock (pardon the digression)... Of course. But when 'Life Lite'© replaced gracious living, the mantle as part of daily family life was forgotten. I still remember my dad winding the thing on Sunday nights. It was a seven day clock with very nice chimes and a beautiful brass clockwork. The key was kept away from us urchins, because he KNEW the temptation to over wind it would be too great. I think I overcame my frustration by dismantling the lawnmower engine instead. mike |
