Perhaps that goes with Sinclair Broadcasting's running "Stolen Honor"
just before election day and the White House paying off Armstrong
Williams to tout "No Child Left Behind"?

Perhaps it shows why the FCC shouldn't let all the broadcast media be
concentrated in just a few hands so that all broadcast news is
filtered through a few corporate offices?

In several cities, including New York, and Los Angeles, there were two
all news radio stations, one owned by Westinghouse and one owned by
CBS.

Now, of course, both stations are owned by Viacom / Infinity.

Also in New York, one newspaper and two TV stations are owned by News
Corporation. (Murdoch)

Apparently not even Sinclair Broadcasting cannot totally swallow
Williams. The Bush White House is not responsible for funds paid by
the Dept. of Education to a commentator?

The Mayor of New York recently arranged to have the somewhat
independent Board of Education terminated and made into a City
department so he could have power and BE HELD RESPONSIBLE for the
schools. A head of government is held responsible for the actions of
departments of government.

If you have something like the USPS or the Federal Reserve Board or
the BBC which is not under the direct control of the government in
power then that's a different story.

By the way, wasn't there a big shtunk in Canada over government-funded
propaganda? Of course, the Congressional fear of Government-funded
internal propaganda is why the VOA, under its charter, can't send a
schedule to Des Moines and why it needed a law to allow that VOA film
about JFK to be seen in the U.S.

Sinclair Investigates Commentator Williams
Tue Jan 11, 2005 03:49 AM ET

By Andrew Wallenstein

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Television station owner Sinclair
Broadcast Group is conducting an internal inquiry into an appearance
made on one of its news programs by political pundit Armstrong
Williams.

Williams admitted last week he received more than $240,000 from the
Department of Education to promote its No Child Left Behind
initiative, a relationship he did not disclose to networks where he
had discussed the subject, including CNN, as well as in his newspaper
column syndicated by Tribune Media Services. Tribune has since
terminated his column.

Barry Faber, general counsel for Sinclair, a station group with
holdings in 39 U.S. markets, disclosed that Williams was under
contract last year as an independent consultant to the company and is
believed to have interviewed Education Secretary Rod Paige on a
Sinclair-produced nightly news program, "News Central," about No Child
Left Behind. But he asserted that Sinclair had no knowledge of
Williams' relationship with the Education Department.

"Our news department is reviewing whether there was anything
inappropriate that aired on our station," said Faber, who added that
the contract with Williams has since expired. He could not specify the
date of Williams' interview with Paige.

I won't say that all of his points are right, or that this newsgroup is

He is absolutely right about one thing - thoughtful people who roundly

Yes, but the listing of what classes the person
(not sure he or she) has taken, and pulling a
Victor Hugo on us by presenting us with two
extremes, rather than the natural grey area that
most places provide make me think that the person
was still trolling.

Let's talk reality here... No one's going to change
their opinions on these issues, so don't bother
trying to bring them up in a newsgroup that isn't
where this stuff should reside. I've yet to see
anyone say, "Wow!! You know what, I was
thinking that XXX was right, but you know
what?? I think that YYY is right now!!" That
doesn't mean that it doesn't happen, but the
arguments are such that everything is painted
in black and white. It's hard to find anything
resembling middle ground if everyone claims
they are right and all who disagree are wrong.

That is both the great promise as well as the
great problem of the internet: if you're in an
argument, you can find anything you want
to back up your side of it.

Would you sentence a person who steals a 100.00 worth of groceries

Would you sentence a married man who has extramarital sex with a

If you answered "no" to both of the above, then why are most Americans

Steve,

A lot of people do quite well in life without having a perfect command
of their native language.

Look at George W. Shrub...? He is one of the most inarticulate people
I have ever seen in high public life. Yet you all voted fro him TWICE!
Why?

The truth is that I didn't ever one time all the way through school
and the university receive an "A" in English"

I usually received "C's" and "D's" in grammar. I took two years of
French and two years of Italian in high school and at the university.
I made "A"'s and "B's" in both of them.

As I said earlier I had a 98% in General Chemistry. I made "A's" in
most of my advance math and science course also. I also made "B's" in
my logic classes.

I'm not sure what it was about English that made it so hard for me to
speak on an excellent level.

I even made "A's" in spelling. I won a spelling bee on television in
grade school.

Just the same there is no need for you to show the world what a low
level of logic you have by trying to belittle the messenger instead of
logically debating his message. :-)

That's a very common thing that people do online and it immediately
reveals that although they may speak grammar well, they do not know
how to reason properly.

In other words they are usually nattering nabobs of negativism!

So mote it be
