Radio Australia and New Zealand this morning
Radio Australia much stronger on 9580 and 11880 than usual this morning
and sounding like a local station with S10 level signals. New Zealand on the other hand weak and noisy but listen-able at 17:00 UTC. -- Telamon Ventura, California |

R. Australia 9590 was pretty noisy here at 1500z

Yeah, it was to cold in your neck of the woods for the radio waves so they headed south and I got to receive them. Exactly! Checked the antenna just to make sure b/c we had quite of bit of melting before this snow and I wondered about ice bringing it down somewhere. It is intact. I must have been out of the path or something. We're still getting aurora on clear nights, which I couldn't tell yesterday of course. |

As you could guess RA is stronger earlier in the morning trending toward a weaker signal later morning. The lower frequency on 31 meters fades first so I switch my listening to the higher one on 25 meters as late morning approaches. For this time in the morning 9580 was much stronger and 11880 is little better than usual for me. Both were very good. New Zealand was a different story this morning at 17:00 UTC very weak where they were very strong during my dark hours. -- Telamon Ventura, California |

The RX340 is connected to the horizontal loop is seeing average S6 and the Drake is connected to the folded dipole cut for 25 meters shows S9. With the volume up the Drake no background noise which is my definition of "sounding like a local station" the RX340 has some static hiss noise on the signal dips. If I switched the antennas I would expect the reverse although the Drake is a little more sensitive then the Ten-Tec. Rock and roll playing right now. -- Telamon Ventura, California |

Well around 17:00 UTC I only listened to them a few minutes and they were noisy with the normal static noise you hear on any weak signal but they were "listen-able" from the standpoint that without effort I could understand all that was said over the bookshelf speaker. That is my definition of "listen-able." Currently they sound about the same on 17,675 right now at 21:47 UTC. I expect them to sound better here a little later in the day. My plan is to listen to RA again next on 21,740 at 22:00 UTC. -- Telamon Ventura, California |

S6 level on RX340 with a little noise in the background and occasional fading but no distortion with the sync and I don't miss any content because of it. This signal usually improves in quality throughout the broadcast. The folded dipole is at its 2X frequency so until I make or buy a distribution amp I'll listen to the 13 meter band one radio at a time. -- Telamon Ventura, California |
