World War Two,it took a wheelbarrow load of Deutsche Marks to buy a loaf
of bread.100 Vietnamese Piaster used to be worth almost what one U.S.Dollar (I was there) was worth in 1964.I wonder what the exchange rate is now? cuhulin |

Wow... that was my first ever digital receiver. I traded it a long time
ago, but I managed to find another one - on ebay - for about 70 bucks with shipping. I still have that one now, but if I could get THAT much for it, hell, maybe I'll put mine up! |

He evidently thinks (knows) the RadioShack Realistic DX-400 will give him the Tunes and Sound that He Enjoys. . jm2cw ~ RHF . . Yeah I guess so. I never heard one so I can't say myself. FM listeners don't really care about SW and SSB. Actually, I was looking to buy one of these radios myself if I saw one in very good condition. I wanted one in my collection since it was supposedly the only triple conversion port out there. They were going for $40-$60 but many didn't look to good. I didn't want to pay more then say $50 for one. I did some research on the radio and the keyboard entry goes bad after a while. There is no manual knob for tuning so you're stuck with the keyboard. Even if you know how to fix radios, the keyboard is "welded" down with plastic tabs to the radio's body. So, it can only be removed and installed a few times. The closer you live to the ocean, the faster the keyboard goes bad over time. The radio is pretty old so you want one in well kept in good condition. I think the triple conversion factor is the reason it's sought after so much. Wonder how much difference it really makes and can you hear it with a portable??? But for $162, and if he likes FM, I think he could have done better but to each his own I say! Lucky |

Here is the telling line that describes why you chose to rant about this to begin with: "I wanted one in my collection...". So essentially you were just ****ed because the price went high? If you are indeed so well off, as you alluded to in an earlier post, then money should be no object to you... correct? dxAce Michigan USA |

Why is that any different than someone paying $500.00 for an Icom R71a,
$900.00 for a Sony 6800W Orange dial, or $3,000 and a Panasonic RF9000. Ebay is about as close as we will come to a perfect market, or one that reflects the true market value for an item. Someone wanted the radio more than you did and was willing to use his wallet rather than his mouth. Lucky wrote: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...sPageName=WDVW Lucky |

I do own a Panasonic Model No.RF-2600 radio which I bought brand new at
a Service Merchandise store that used to be on I-55 Frontage Road about twenty something years ago.I am not saying it is a great radio but it still works ok.I am not too sure if I want to sell it,but I might,it all depends on how much money someone makes an off to me for the radio.I don't remember exactly how much money I paid for the radio,I think it was somewhere between $160.00 to $180.00. cuhulin |

A perfect or close to perfect market is one where all sellers can offer
their item(s) and bidders can offer to purchase while having access to information about prior and current sales activity. On ebay there is a wealth of information about what is being offered, what prices items are selling at and what prices do not attract buyers. Are there scams - sure, but they are a small small part of the action. A perfect or close to perfect market is not one where you get your idea of the lowest price. The only guaranty for the buyer is that if you want a certain item you have to be willing to top the last bidders price. The only guaranty for the seller is that your good will sell if it is priced to attract buyers and buyers are looking. A perfect market doesn't guarantee that some participants will make dumb decisions. Think of the market as an opportunity that can be taken or forgone - it's your choice. |
