The irony was clearly lost.....

I was going to show how to calculate a 1/4 wavelenght dipole,
decided it would be a waste.

Just go for as long a wire as you can put in the air.
Higher is better. Longer is better.
Stay way from power poles and do NOT run your antenna
under a power line.

Anything over 200' starts to get directional in the direction
the wire is running.

Wire can zig zag all over the place and still be effetive.

A 50~75' wire works pretty darn well.
A 1000' wire works well also.
And a 666' wire would also be good.
:-)
And for radios (300/F)/4 is the MAGIC number.
A good number to be able to generate.
Even moreso if you ever wish to transmit.
