Is Iran planning on detonating an A-Bomb high over the US to cripple

Those POS Chinese missiles are no threat to anyone in the Western Hemisphere. http://www.fas.org/nuke/guide/iran/missile/shahab-3.htm |

@z14g2000cwz.googlegroups.com: My Start Page, when I open Internet Explorer, is actually a page of popular links in table form that I made using Microsoft Word, and the page is stored on the drive. It works out nice, opens very quick, and doesn't call for a connection when Internet Explorer is opened. I have animated images dispersed throughout the page to give it life. World Net Daily used to be one of the links on the start page, but no more. I deleted it sometime ago and have never regretted it. This article shows why. Obviously we live in a very large country, maybe they could pull this off over a country of insignificant size, but not the U.S. I have relegated World Net Daily to the usual source of Neo-Con news available in so many places. The real scary thing about it is,It could happen.China and North Korea
and other rogue states/countries are getting better and better at building long range intercontinental missiles.I still Say World Net Daily is a Good news website. But,to each their own,I always say. cuhulin |

Actually, the idea of terrorists detonating a nuclear bomb over the US to wipe out solid state technology dates from 2000, when it was used as the premise in a TV show called Dark Angel. In the show, "terrorists" detonate a nuclear bomb "80 miles" above the US in 2010, wiping out all solid state technology and turning the country into an impoverished third world country that's a cross between a fascist state (not quite Nazi Germany; maybe Franco's Spain) and a banana republic. The show is set in 2019 and follows the efforts of a rich dissident and a genetically engineered superhuman (Michael Weatherly and Jessica Alba, respectively, who married in real life during the show's run) to overthrow the corrupt and oppressive postapocalypse government. Dark Angel lasted two seasons, but the cost of recreating a postapocalypse US week after week took its toll and the show was canceled due to sticker shock on the part of Fox execs. I see that the idea of using a nuke to bring the US to its knees in this manner hasn't gone away. It's gone from fiction to conspiraloon "fact". No doubt. What do these boneheads think will happen to Iran or anyone else
who does that? Do ya think maybe Iran knows it would be a parking lot as soon as we found a missle to launch? No world government is stupid enough to do that. Terrorists would certainly try it though. indeed, surely it would take quite a few bombs to cover the U.S.
if it did happen i think the government would resort to web.tv boxes to communicate. "? Dr. Artaud ?" wrote in message ... If you want something to worry about then consider the possibility of
an asian version of the EU. Imagine China and India as the center of a regional economic unit that could dwarf the EU once it got going. That unit aligned against Japan and the U.S. would quite a force. Is there room for two AU organizations - one in Africa and one in Asia? |

Hoard those cases of canned food, drums of water, boxes of ammunition, tube radios and handcrank generators in the Montana forest. EMP was more of a threat before high-density ICs. The interconnecting
wires must be of significant length to devlope a high enough voltage to hurt the juctions. I'd say this is just more fascist scare tactics. Grow a pair. |

that make any sense? I saw a website a few days ago about a company which sells Fiber Optic cables if anybody wants the URL of the website.I think I emailed it to myself. cuhulin |

Only about one or two percent of the bomb's energy is converted to the EMP. It come from the interaction when the X-ray wavefront of the explosion slams into the atoms in the upper atmosphere, and the displaced electrons get jerked. Add in the earth's magnetic field and you end up with a pulse generated in a pancake shaped area about 1000 miles across (depending on the altitude of the explosion). This pulse has a very short risetime, under 100 nanoseconds and then tails off over several microseconds. But the key point is that you need an antenna that picks it up. If the antennas (intended or accidental) are short enough, they won't collect enough energy to harm the equipment. And the equipment has to be sensitive in the first place. Pretty much like dealing with nearby lightning strikes. Mark Zenier Washington State resident |

Recently, I picked up an old tube-type AM/clock Philco radio. I only
purchased it because it was in pristine shape, and they were practically giving it away. The clock-face doesn't light up, but it performs otherwise as new. In regards to any dire-straights type scenario, food, shelter, water, and such would be of priority. Any listening device might give useful clues as to the state of things in general. Darren |
