Its elicitors are a puzzle: it makes sense that we are disgusted by things that can contaminate our food, but why does this food-related emotion extend itself so deeply into our social world, so that people feel disgusted by certain ethnic groups (or by racism), by homosexuality (or by homophobia), and by a variety of social and moral violations that don’t involve anything physically contaminating? Disgust appears to play a role in moral judgment, moral conflict, and ethno-political violence. Disgust has clinical ramifications, for it seems to be involved in obsessive-compulsive disorder and in a variety of phobias. Disgust even has religious ramifications, for it appears to be part of the psychological foundation of culturally widespread ideas of purity and pollution. Many religions (e.g., Judaism, Islam, and Hinduism) have extensive rules for regulating human bodily processes and keeping them separated from sacred objects and practices. Disgust appears to provide part of the structure of these rules and practices.'' |

The latest ARB ratings for NYC, Winter 2005, are on line at: http://www.radioandrecords.com/RRRat...5/23/2005&CE=0 The ratings shown are for all listeners age 12+, so the dated information on the source of the 25-54 numbers might help clearify the wide difference in the ARB numbers. The current ratings a WABC-AM 3.5 WOR-AM 2.2 WLIB-AM 1.2 Above ARB: Apr 25, 2005 Demos alone can create a wide spread but similar ARB rating differences from those reported also show up in NYC area market ratings for Nassau-Suffolk, Middlesex-Somerset-Union and Hamptons-Riverhead that report concurrent with NYC. I live in LA and AA has a good signal. The latest LA rating reported this past week was takes during the wind down of the Xtra sports format to be of any use fin judging the size of the AA audience in LA. Radio is now more about serving demographic groups than picking up a large 12+ raing. But, there is a connection in there somewhere. You can't have a big rating in a large demo group and a small 12+ number. |

The latest LA rating reported this past week was takes during the wind down of the Xtra sports format to be of any use fin judging the size of the AA audience in LA. Maybe in the city limits, but KTLK doesn't even cover all of L. A. County. Actually, the 5 mv/m primary coverage includes all of LA County except the High Desert (which only one LA station covers well) and most of the OC, all the way down beyond Irvine. It operates with the highest power permissable, 50,000 watts, during daytime hours. It shares the KTNQ transmitter site, and has 5/8 wavelenght towers, making for great efficiency. As far as NYC goes, all I know is what I read in the funny papers (and on the internets). Sources noted above. Those ratings were over a year old. |
