Default Kenwood 5000-R reciever

Hi I am a long time lurker here, about 6 yrs. I just picked this radio
up at an antique/junk shop for $45. It has way more dodads than my old
Halicrafters Sky Champion. I cant seem to get the fm/vhf to come on. the
freq, display stays in hf mode. If you push the vhf button, it reads vhf
freqs and beeps for a second, then goes right back to shortwave. Am I
doing something wrong or is the radio defective in vhf mode. I didn't
get a manual with it so I'm flying blind playing with this radio. Any
help would be helpfull. Thankyou in advance. Dan

Nothing wrong, it is just looking and not finding the VC20 vhf board.
Not many of them were purchased new because they were quite limited in
frequency coverage. Their relative rarity means prices are well beyond
what you could get a used full coverage scanner for.

You lucky man. I never seem to run into Kenwood R5000s for $45 at my local
junk stores!
