**** happens during war. On the whole, American soldiers were MUCH
better behaved during WW2 than during Vietnam or Iraq, especially
towards the local populace. Why this is, I don't know. General social
breakdown in American society?

It helps too if one is fighting a uniformed enemy.

Also true, considering that that's how American troops are trained to
fight. But fighting an insurgency instead of an army is no excuse for
many of the outrages perpetrated by US troops in Nam and Iraq.

Well, speaking as one who is comfortably nestled in the Sierra Madre
between Palm Springs and Santa Barbara, I don't see much difference
between Canadia and Michigun.

Many folks in California don't even know where Michigan is. I speak from experience.

At the same time, everyone here knows where California is. It's that place where David
Rickets is involved making bad TV, and busily promoting satellite crap.

As a native Michigander, I take exception to your comment. The
linguistic nuances are instantly noticeable, the currency is
different, you can get Cuban cigars in Canada but not in Michigan,
used to be liquor was cheaper in Canada (left Michigan 25 years ago,
don't know if that's still true), fireworks were legal in Canda but
not Michigan (unconfirmed as of this date & age) and there was a
definite difference of attitude on international relations with Canada
being more 'isolationist' in philosophy (Canadians on this group may
dispute that with me - it is my perception and not based on polls,
statistics or hard research). You ought to add Michigan to your
list of places to visit; a lot of pleasant scenery, outdoor
activities, cultural attractions and plenty of decent people.

Canada probably rejoices in that.
