Core samples from Greenland, Antarctica, etc. contain trapped samples
of the atmosphere, as well as hints to the climate during those
periods along with other information such as ash from volcanic
eruptions, and so on.

So sorry to hear you failed high-school earth science.

Even here in Michigan (USA) we haven't had any really good snow since the 60's
save for some nasty stuff in '77 and '78 or so. The ski industry has been
suffering here as well.

I though, am looking forward to planting a few palm trees and perhaps an orange
grove to help tide me through my years as a pensioner.

Merely get a few more insurance claims in. You've done very well up until now.

I sure am glad somebody thinks so. However, your view of my reality is just a bit
flawed, 'tard boy.

LMAO at the 'tard in CanaDuh.

Significant Weakening Of Gulf Stream Detected

Scientists have found evidence that the sinking mechanism that
drives
the Gulf Stream has weakened to less than 25% of its original
strength. The results could mean a significant cooling for Britain
and
Europe.

I wonder if this means a revival of the Scottish ski industry,
currently in decline due to dwindling snowfalls? ;-)

Could also be a return of the "Little Ice Age" of the late medieval
and early renaissance periods.

Sure seems like a "Little Ice Age" here in Michigan this month... currently 48
here. We seemed to have warmer temps last month though it was drier than normal.

"The weakening, apparently caused by global warming, could herald big
changes in the current over the next few years or decades."

It remains to be seen whether the observable melting of the ice sheets
and apparent global warming is part of a periodic natural cycle or
whether manmade pollution plays a part as well. The shrinkage of ice
packs near the poles is astounding.

Apparently being the key word here.

Highest CO2 concentrations in hundreds of thousands of years.
Unprecedented.

More junk science. Just how did we measure the CO2 hundreds of thousands of
years ago anyway?

Someone made a comment about polar cap cores. However, in the past hundreds of
thousands of years it's been much colder and much warmer than it is now.

For example, the last ice age peaked about 20, 000 years ago. Michigan was under
ice.

Most likely the warming and cooling of the earth is caused by variations in the
radiation from the sun coupled with the wobble (tilt) of the earths axis.

I certainly hope that the whackos don't collapse in a paroxysm of fear.

CLIMATE change researchers have detected the first signs of a slowdown
in the Gulf Stream — the mighty ocean current that keeps Britain and
Europe from freezing.

They have found that one of the “engines” driving the Gulf Stream —
the sinking of supercooled water in the Greenland Sea — has weakened
to less than a quarter of its former strength.

The weakening, apparently caused by global warming, could herald big
changes in the current over the next few years or decades.
Paradoxically, it could lead to Britain and northwestern and Europe
undergoing a sharp drop in temperatures.

This discovery is absolutely incredible. I do believe they have
greatly understated the effects of a current failure. That part is
subject to debate. In my opinion the most concerning quote from the
story was "Until recently we would find giant ‘chimneys’ in the sea
where columns of cold, dense water were sinking from the surface to
the seabed 3,000 metres below, but now they have almost disappeared."

If and when the current fails the effects will quickly wrap around the
globe. If anything global warming may amplify the effects by greating
greater temperature differences from north to south and provide the
instability necessary to create huge storms by creating a greater
verticle temperature difference.
