JLewis:

I am afraid your observations are all too true... as, if you cannot
trust the news in the "free'est country in the world", then how is any
above suspicion... and don't we notice there is a REAL problem with
that...

Warmest regards,
John

Thanks guys,

Although I would hardly call the BBC "agenda free" - and certainly not
Cuba.

I guess the answer to my question is - there are none...kinda what I
thought...

Sad.

Not meaning to sound paranoid about the politically controlled newscasts
here in the U.S., but can someone recommend a good reliable SW station that
provides real, honest to God, true facts and figures newscasts?

It would be great to listen to someone who is without bias, and not trying
to achieve their own agenda...

Or are there any stations left?

Thanks.

I disagree.

First, when the UK gets a little too deep into some exercise of
imperial colonialist nostalgia, they follow the government line.
(After all, the Foreign Office pays their bills).

Second, they're too prone to go to the progaganda sections of
the US Republican Noise Machine for "balance". They'll get some
mouthpiece from Cato, American Enterprise, Heritage, etc to
"get another viewpoint". That's one of the main purposes of those
outfits, to make some ideological whack job idea seem mainstream.
They're as balanced as Radio Havana, on the other side.

My favorite is the weekly programs from Radio Australia, "Background
Briefing", "Media Report", "Law Report", "Correspondent's Report".
(They are biased a bit to the left, but then so am I). They're also
the sort of in depth investigative stuff that a US listener can only
dream about.

Yep. If you try looking for "unbiased" news, after a while you start
feeling like Diogenes wandering around Athens with a lamp in broad
daylight looking for the truly honest man. He never found him, and you
won't find unbiased news either.

Heck, back in the day, I used to watch these news casts called "Kids'
Beat" on "Superstation" TBS. These news briefings were short in
duration and hosted by a girl named Audrey Lee (who later did TV ads
for National Pride Car Wash).
As for any agenda or bias....I dunno. Maybe Ted Turner was tryin' to
manipulate the malleable minds of America's young through these stories
of children participating in science fairs and the like. Who the hell
knows?

I remember her. She'd always end with "I'm Audra Lee. See you next
time on KIDS BEAT" and she always over-annunciated each syllable...

BBC, CBC, Radio Netherlands, Radio Havana all have their biases, but
they are not the same biases, nor are they the same biases you'll find
in US main stream media.

Then if you want a REALLY different perspective on things, there's
always Brother Stair!

Very interesting. BTW, when I say that RHC doesn't lie, that is in
regards to reporting world news that is easily verified. I'm sure much
of what they say about Cuba is crap.

Oh yeah, here is a good line from the article:

Cuba has one of the most democratic systems
ever. Fidel is up for election every five years, just like
everybody else."
