Sony ICF 7600 vs Yaesu VX-5... suggestions
I've been contemplating a shortwave receiver purchase. I had an ICOM
IC-718 that probably would have done very well. Alas, I sold it on Ebay. I didn't realize it's value as a SW receiver. At any rate, I understand the Sony ICF 7600 is a pretty good choice. Unfortunately, they seem to be hard to find. Perhaps they're being discontinued? The local HRO here has had them on order for about 6 months with no shipment in sight. So I got to thinking. I have a Yaesu VX-5 handheld. This radio has pretty wide receive capability. My thoughts were along the lines of getting a Sony AN-LP1 antenna and hooking it onto the end of the stock rubber duck. Yaesu actually recommends hooking a wire onto the duck for shortwave listening. It has a screw off end that can easily accomdate a round eyelet connector. Any thoughts as to how the VX-5 might perform as compared to the Sony radio? Thanks in advance. -- -=Elden=- http://www.moondog.org |
