CNN is reporting that a shuttle window cover fell, and damaged some
protective tiles near the tail. So launch may be delayed.

Sorry, don't have any current freqs though. There has been a ham station
relaying shuttle/ground transmissions on 3860 LSB past years, but I don't
know if it is still active.

WLS (ABC) 890 in Chicago is reporting that the launch is a go for tomorrow.

Tune 10780.0 (Cape radio/DOD Cape) 24 hours before launch time, you'll
hear the frequencies for the range safety net, SRB recovery net, etc.
announced then. If you miss that, it's pretty much hit and miss as to
finding where those HF nets are operating, but you can check the WUN
web pages for a list of where such comms have been in the past. Either
that, or check with the guys in the IRC channels that do realtime
monitoring while on IRC and see if anyone knows the freqs that are in
use at the time, chances are they either will or are looking for them
and will soon find 'em.

(Note: I have snipped quite a bit from the list, but while there is
some good stuff listed there are also a lot of obsolete frequencies
listed. You may want to update your information. I don't mean that as
a putdown, merely constructive advice.

Off the top of my head, for example...

10.493 FEMA Nationwide primary

This is the FEMA NECN Nationwide FEMA-2U/L channel, you might hear
either USB or LSB here.

2.691 ??????
4.426 USCG calling

Ships transmit on 4134.0 - 4426.0 is for the shore stations (it's a
maritime duplex channel).

5.692????

Now 5693.0 and it's an Aero Off Route freq that is used by USCG/USN,
and also by the RAF's Strike Command Integrated Communications System
(STCICS)

8.780 ?????

Probably refers to 8779, a marine duplex calling channel. This is the
freq for the shore stations, the ships transmit on 8255.

13.927 Hurricane watch net M.A.R.S

This is the ACB primary for USAF MARS. Lots of phone patch traffic can
be heard here.

11.207 ?????

Now 11208.0 - this is another Aero Off Route frequency, and is used by
the US Navy Worldwide and the RAF STCICS.

10.780 Primary NASA booster recovery ships(CAPE RADIO)

Well, not exactly. 10780 is the primary for Cape Radio/DOD Cape, the
SRB recovery ships will be heard here but the SRB recovery net usually
operates on a separate frequency.

6.712 USAF Global HF
6.739 USAF Global HF
8.968 This frequency has been removed from GHFS service?
8.992 USAF GHFS
13.200 USAF GHFS
17.976 Removed from GHFS service?

What used to be called the GHFS is now called the HF-GCS.

6712 is also used by the Canadian military, and by the French AF's
Circus network.

8968 and 17976 have indeed been removed from service. There has been
some use of 8968 by the NIGH****CH Net assets logged since then, I'm
not sure about 17976. 6739, 8992, and 13200 are still quite valid
HF-GCS frequencies.

8.764 USCG WEATHER

Tim Rulon posted the updates to the USCG weather broadcasts to this
newsgroup back in April, so I won't duplicate it here. 8764 is also
the shore stations freq for the USCG duplex calling frequency where
the ships transmit on 8240.

11.330 OCEANIC RADIO( Caribbean Sea)

Aero Caribbean (CAR-B) MWARA frequency.

5.545 ???????

May refer to 5544.0 which is an aero LDOC freq.

8.844 ?????

May refer to 8843.0 which is an aero Central East Pacific (CEP-1/2)
MWARA freq.

5.616 Oceanic radio (North Atlantic)

Aero North Atlantic (NAT-B) MWARA freq.

8.846 ????

Aero Caribbean (CAR-B) MWARA freq.

8.980 USAF

This Aero Off Route freq is used by USCG and was formerly used by the
Navy's Tactical Support Center facilities before they started closing
them. Also a NATO AWACS Discrete.

6.577 CARRIBEAN Oceanic

Aero Caribbean (CAR-A) MWARA freq.

Hope this helps.
