http://www.radiointel.com/ Here it is the first report of the new and
very much awaited Eton E1XM. Dr Phil, author of the Icom R75
Cookbook, shares his impressions of the E1XM. We hope to have another
review soon of the E1XM. After all for a radio that has been
anticipated for over 10 years deserves at least two reviews! [click

I think this radio has a fine array of features and it could be a good
radio but I'll just have to wait until someone I trust reviews it. I
don't care or will read any comments from someone like "Lucky" who has
proven himself to be full of it on the news group.

Yes, RHF, that's the same review I linked to above, earlier in the
thread.

Steve - Yes that is True.

Bill & Steve,

Well, 'if' we suppose that the general trend of radio design for
these Radios started with the Drake SW1 and then evolved into the
SW2 and then SW8 'portable' Shortwave Radios.

Followed by the Grundig Satellit 800 M (produced by Eton Corp.)
that was claimed to be basically a re-box Drake SW8.

Now we have the Eton E1 Radio which some claim is an up-graded
and improved Grundig Satellit 800 M.

As to what RL Drake Co's specific involvement in the Eton E1;
we may never know for sure. But the evolution of this Radio
Product from : SW1 SW2 SW8 GS800M Eton E1 is a
generally accepted fact.

Eton and Tecsun's role in the development and production of the
Eton E1 may be much greater then Drakes. But most would agree
that the foundation of the design and development knowledge base
is Drakes to start with; and still continues to this day.

A New Question Arises - Who Is the Indian Radio Poduction
"Assembly" Plant 'partner' for the Eton E1 Radio ? ? ?

and that's what i thing about that ~ RHF

I thought the SW8 came first. Then the 1 and 2.

Not fact.

The SW8 preceded the SW1 (which, with the addition of selectable
sideband synchronous detection, became the SW2) by two years. The SW1
and 2 constituted Drake's budget line. But your central observation
that the E1 is a knock-on from the 800 and the 2nd version of the SW8
is my understanding as well. The three are to my mind repackagings of
the same core receiver, varying in quality of execution and the
quantity of air included for the purchase price. The E1 adds welcome
memory capabilities, superior display, and pbs.

This is why you have trouble getting MW stations from one county over.
