Dear Mike,

I should have made it more clear that I have never actually tried a
Wellbrook ALA 1530 antenna myself. My comment was based on what I read
in PASSPORT and what Andy Ikin told me personally when he suggested
that I buy the ALA 330S as opposed to the '1530. I'm sorry for any
confusion my comment caused. I'll try to write more clearly in the
future. Thanks for the nice comment.

I was not aware of an update to the '1530. I would assume (and ONLY
assume) that the loop would be the same size as that of the '330S,
which is slightly smaller than the original '330. My loop is about 3
feet in diameter so I would guess that the new '1530S would use the
same size loop.

We'll have to wait for the reviews to come in regarding this update. I
presume that Andy is loking to design an "all-purpose" loop antenna,
one that would perform equally well on LW, MW, and SW. So fat, this has
eluded him, but if anyone can fashion such an antenna, Andy is the one.

In the meantime, at least for SW listening (as far as I'm concerned),
the Wellbrook ALA 330S is unparalleled. It is also quite good on MW,
though I personally do not do a lot of MW DXing,

It'll be interesting to follow Andy and his antennas. I hope that his
updated '1530S keeps all of the '1530's good attributes and minimizes
or eliminates its negative (realtively speaking) ones.

Best,

Joe
