Sweetheart? There you go again. You'll never lead any revolt with that sort
of vocabulary.

He can always stay behind the lines and, uh, service the troops.

I'm fairly certain that in any citizen uprising you'll be among the first
individuals dispatched to their reward.

Ever look inside the early VHF to UHF converters? The one I had long ago
that used a 6J6 I believe. The units local oscillator changed frequency
by raising or lowering a shield around the tube. This apparently changed
the tubes elements capacitance to ground and the frequency lowered with
the raising of the shield not unlike the tuning capacitor in many
receivers.

Have you ever seen a Mallory "Inductotuner" for UHF?

No I have not but if you have a link I would like to see one.

Other things I seen done with tubes externally is with those little
acorn type tubes. I have seen them used in a way they pass signals to
one another by pointing their tips together. I can't tell you any more
than that as I had no schematic of the device, which was some kind of
military remote control box that went into aircraft.

http://www.duracap.com/inductuners/uhf600series.htm It is a compact
version of a multi gang roller inductor. There are a number of models
available, and they were used as variable TV tuners years ago. Too
bad they don't make one that is suitable for HF front end. It might
be possible to adapt the lowest VHF model to a single band, but its
still an interesting device.

http://www.google.com/search?num=100...window=1&q=Mal
lory+ind uctuner&spell=1 has a few more pages related to the
subject.

Thanks for the links.

You're welcome. If you could get the right inductance range those
would be great for a multi stage tuned trap.
