(OT) Shariah Law Not Allowed in Ontario and Quebec
Further to earlier posts on this topic, Ontario has rejected the use of
Shariah law to settle family problems such as divorce, inheritance, and child custody. The Quebec Superior Court recently made a similar ruling. The government and the courts felt that women would be discriminated against within the Moslem culture in violation of the Canadian Rights and Freedom Laws. It is ulikely that the matter will be raised in any of the other provinces, so Shariah Law is a dead issue in Canada. cbc.ca/story/canada/national/2005/09/09/sharia-proteste-20050909.html |
