Nice to see someone has gone into this in depth..
I have my old Racal RA 17 L attached to a redundant line which runs from my
home to a pole 30 mtrs away, where it is cut off. I get very good reception
on it and treat it as my own personal long wire antenna. Fortunately the
phone co. have a habit of leaving the old stuff in-situ when installing new
lines !
