I use something called ''chandelier wire'' from Home Depot. It's 18 g
Soft Drawn Copper stranded from 7 wires. About $15 for 500' as I
recall.

Maybe that's your antenna problem. You have taken the wire off the spool haven't
you?

THHN insulation is not rated to stand up to UV radiation. After about a
year the outer clear nylon coating will separate and start falling off.
It's will not change how well the antenna works but it looks real bad as
the layer falls off.
If you can get it, THW will hold up a lot better.

If you are considering using THHN Insulated Stranded Copper
Wire from the Hardware Store for Wire Antenna Elements for
Shortwave Listening (SWL) Antennas.

.
The Size # 14 AWG that is made up of 19 Strands of Wire
works well and can be bought in 500 Foot Rolls.
