BM - That would be my guess-a-mate ~ RHF

I still have an old AC Three Prong (3-P) Plug with just the
Round "Ground" connected to a 24 Inch #14 AWG Black Insulated
Wire with just the Barrel of an 1/8" Plug on the other-end.
Plug the AC 3-P Plug in to the Wall Outlet and plug the 1/8"
Barrel in to the Radio's External Antenna Jack or External
Speaker or Headphone Jack depending on your Radio. Sometimes
(not always) this added Ground would be just enough to made
the difference whether the Radio's Reception was just
'only fair' or "Very Good" !

SIMPLE GROUNDED RADIO RECEPTION TESTING :

Start with the 'portable' AM/FM Shortwave Radio by itself :
* Powered by Batteries (DC Only)
* Whip Antenna Fully Extended.

1. Do your Basic Radio Testing
[ Enjoy Listening to your Radio ]

2. Next 'connect' the Radio to the Shack's Ground via the
Radio's Ground "Connection" : External Antenna Jack or External
Speaker or Headphone Jack depending on your Radio.

3. Do your Ground Radio Testing
[ Enjoy Listening to your Radio ]

YES - Sometimes a Ground will make the difference when running
on Batteries and only using the Whip Antenna with a 'portable'
AM/FM Shortwave Radio.


NOTE - Then again what you see as an improvement just may be
the increase in Power to the Radio from the AC-to-DC Adapter
(Higher Voltage and More Current); then the normal DC Power
that you get with a Set of Batteries.
