Hi Brian,
Good catch there! I got one a few years back (at a significantly higher price). It is all you say it is, however I don't consider it to be a real great MW DX machine. On the sync detect question....it does work pretty well, but it is not in the league of the 2010. This probably says more about me than the 700, but I have to dive into the manual a lot to be refreshed on "how to do stuff" - it may not be the most intuitive radio ever. There is/was a book sold by Universal Radio called The Great 700, or something like that. Has manual in it, tips, schematic, etc. Very worthwhile to get. The 700 is my best portable for SSB reception for sure. It really shines there. Has a fine tune adjustment (why the 2010 didn't include that is beyond me). A radio with the best of the 700 and the 2010...now I think that would be the ultimate! Have fun with the 700! -Russ K3Pi |

![]() From: "Brian Hill" Newsgroups: rec.radio.shortwave Date: Sat, 5 Nov 2005 09:50:50 -0600 Subject: GRUNDIG "Satellit 700" "Greg" wrote in message Brian - I used to want one of those really badly. If I'm not mistaken, it has a sync detector, right? How well does that work? And does it have SSB capability? Regards, Greg Me too and I finally got lucky. Yea it has synch. It works well. And it has SSB capability. It's one of the best sounding portable radios I've heard, if not the best. It has separate bass and treble controls and a good speaker which is probably why? I was seeing how sensitive it was and compared it to the R-5000 on the outside ant. It's quite sensitive for a portable. Of course it's no R-5000 but a good DXer in it's own right. I think my Sony 2010 has a little better ears but not by much and the 700 sounds a lot better. The FM and MW broadcast bands sound great and I think I may ad this to the list of good MW DX machines. -- Regards B.H. Maybe there is one out there for me. Greg |

Looks like you have aquired a nice music room too. There is a guy in
North Mississippi (Starkville or somewhere around there I think,I once saw something on tv news about that) whom builds Guitars and with the leftover fine wood from building the Guitars,he uses that to build/make fine writing pens. cuhulin |
