Default How High should a Shortwave Listener (SWL) Inverted "L" Antenna be . . .

Bill,

How High should a Shortwave Listener (SWL) Inverted "L" Antenna be...

If you are simply using the Inverted "L" Antenna as a
Receive 'Only' Shortwave Listener's (SWL) Antenna.

Then the Shortwave Listener (SWL) Inverted "L" Antenna can
be viewed as an "Available Space" RANDOM WIRE Antenna
that is configured in the shape of and Inverted "L".
- - - It is as Big as you can get it and as Long as you can
make it in the Available Space that you have to work in for
your location and conditions.

NOTE - The Shortwave Listener (SWL) Inverted "L" Antenna
is not 'cut' to any specific Wave Length of Fraction of a
wave length for any specific Frequency of Band.
= = = It is simply a Bent "Random Wire" Antenna

First - Take the Wire Antenn Element Vertical-Up-Leg from
the Ground Level (Top of the Ground Rod) to as High as it
can go : 10/12 15/18 20/21 24/25 27/30 Feet or more.

Second - Take the Wire Antenn Element Horizontal-Out-Arm from
the Corner-Top-Rigging-Point to as Far Out-and-Away as it
can go : 20/25 30/35 40/45 50/60 75/90 Feet or more.

Usually the Shortwave Listener (SWL) Inverted "L" Antenna
has a Vertical-Up-Leg to Horizontal-Out-Arm "Aspect Ratio"
{Sizing} of One-to-Two (1:2) or One-to-Three (1:3)

For those who want a Set-of-Numbers :
Vertical-Up-Leg (1X) : Horizontal-Out-Arm (2X to 3X)
10 Feet : 20 Feet to 30 Feet - Small (Tip - Use Litz Wire)
12 Feet : 24 Feet to 36 Feet
15 Feet : 30 Feet to 45 Feet - Average
18 Feet : 36 Feet to 54 Feet
20 Feet : 40 Feet to 60 Feet - Large
25 Feet : 50 Feet to 75 Feet
30 Feet : 60 Feet to 90 Feet - BIG !

NOTE - Unless you are using an Inverted "L" Antenna for a
Amateur / Ham Transmitting Antenna.

What is a good height for the horizontal leg
for one who has height limitations?

I could get up around 20 feet without too much trouble/
