Default Hooking up Radio Speakers

The Pioneer AM/FM/Stereo Onyko model SX-690 radio I bought for five
dollars at the Goodwill store last week has some red and black push
buttons on the back of the radio.Push the buttons and little metal gates
raise up for inserting the speaker wires,we have all seen those kinds of
connections before.Question is,which side of the speaker wires (two
large Pioneer speakers I bought for three dollars each when I bought the
radio at the Goodwill store) are suppose to connect to the red
connections, the black wires with the stripe line or the solid black
wires that dont have a stripe line on them?

Default Hooking up Radio Speakers

Cuhulin,

Be consistant and uniform in what your do with both Speakers.

Set the Pair of Speakers side-by-side with their backs toward you.

Examine the Speaker Terminals is One Red and the Other Black ?
- - - If So - Then That is Good )

Buy Some Speaker Wire (18 AWG Stranded) that has a
White Stripe or Raised Ridge along one of the Wires -or-
Separate the two Speaker Wires about 2"-3" and Stripe
Off about 1" of Insulation from each. You may notice that
One Wire is Silver Colored and the Other Wire is Copper
Colored.

Cut Two Equal Lengths of Wire long enough to go from
the planned location of the Speakers to the Radio/Stereo
Tip - Add about an Extra Three Feet to this Length so that
you can make some future relocations of the components
with out having to buy and cut new Speaker Wire.

Connect the White Stripe/Silver Wire to the Red Terminal
of each Speaker.

Connect the Plain/Copper Wire to the Black Terminal of
each Speaker.

Place the Speakers in their chosen locations.

Run the Speaker Wires to the Radio/Stereo.

Looking from the Front of the Radio/Stereo :

First - Connect the Left Speaker Wire with the White Stripe /
Silver Wire to the Left Red Terminal of the Radio/Stereo.

Second - Connect the Left Speaker Wire with the Plain/Copper
Wire to the Left Black Terminal of the Radio/Stereo.

Third - Connect the Right Speaker Wire with the White Stripe /
Silver Wire to the Right Red Terminal of the Radio/Stereo.

Fourth - Connect the Right Speaker Wire with the Plain/Copper
Wire to the Right Black Terminal of the Radio/Stereo.

Coil-Up the Extra Speaker Wire for each of the Speakers behind
the each of Speakers; not the Radio/Stereo. Make the Coils 4"-6"
Round and tie them off if you wish.

cuhulin - enjoy your new (to you) radio/stereo ~ RHF
