may be why Radio Labs goes out of its way to place in the blue leds

I don't know but that would be a bummer to have the display go, brings
down the whole machine and places much doubt in Quality of Sangean!

once you lose a Customer it is very hard or impossible to get him back

also news like your message here spreads and we try to protect one
another from dubious products

Shortwave is Shortwave.If you want AM and FM,use another radio.
