Hey all.
I've been out of SW for about a year or so.
I have an Icom R75 which I absolutely love and have been starting again to
listen at night.
Also have a Grundig Yachtboy 400 which I also love.
However, I'd like a really small portable SW radio also to round out the
stable.
Was at Radio Shack last night and saw some new (to me) Etons and Grundigs.
One, in particular, caught my eye.
I think it was the Eton 100.
It was tiny.
Are there any review sights out there where I can read a review of this and
other SW radios?
Any of you purchase this radio?
How's its performance compared to my Yachtboy?
Thanks all and I hope to participate more in this newsgroup.
Lenny

A few online resources that you might find helpful:

http://www.radiointel.com/reviews.htm

http://www.eham.net/reviews/products/8

http://www.dxing.com/rx/rxindex.htm

http://www.monitoringtimes.com/html/reviews.html

http://www2.rnw.nl/rnw/en/features/m.../rx_index.html

Passport to World Band Radio is a good publication to look at...many
receiver reviews and antenna reviews:

Also, Yahoo has several discussion groups that are focused on specific
receivers or manufacturers. Simply search for Icom, Kenwood, Degen,
Tecsun, etc.

Good luck.

I use a Sony ICF-SW07 which I like for its worthy performance and
compact size. But the 'SW07 is rather pricey when purchased new. And
it's a tad larger than the Eton E100 (note, the E100 is also sold as
the Tecsun PL-200). If you liked what you saw with the E100, you might
also look at the Degen DE1105 which is more competitively priced,
although you would have to order directly from Guangzhou, Guangdong,
China:

http://froogle.google.com/froogle_cl...ddr=&scoring=p

If I were choosing between the E100 and the DE1105, I would probably go
with the DE1105, based on what I have read. From what the reviews
suggest, the DE1105 would probably be much more resistant to
overloading and images. One drawback to the DE1105, however, is that
coverage is from 5800-26100 kHz; so you'd be compromising on the
tropical bands, if you went this route. I'm sure neither will offer
you a performance quite on a par with the Yachtboy 400, although I'll
leave it to others in this group to provide a more experience-informed
comparison.

Also, with regard to online resources, be aware that there's a load of
good info to be found in the archives of rec.radio.shortwave.
Searching these archives with the right keywords can yield answers to
many many questions and provide opinions on a lot of different
products.

I have been in Shortwave Radio since 1948 when my older brother brought
a Shortwave Radio home.

Hello Lenny.

You can check all the reviews mentioned in the posts above but keep one
thing in mind: your Yachtboy 400 is a DUAL-conversion radio; the E-100
is SINGLE-conversion.

That alone should answer your question about performance comparison.

Best,

Joe
