Default KBS Transmitter location please ?

Dear all,

I was able to listen to KBS World radio (Korea) in French on 5955 kHz tonight,
with the help of my portable random dipole and ATS909 : 5 bars on the S-meter
(no so stable but very clear sound), 0 bars and hardly possible to hear off the
whip.

I'm pretty sure that this transmission is not comming from Korea. I've they have
some agreement with BBC. Do they transmit this program from the UK ?

I was also able to pick up VOA in portugese on 9805, which is said to be
transmitted from the Ascencion Island ??? Again hardly audible off the whip,
clear even if not very good quality reception.

Have a good night,

Charly

KBS 2000 UTC to 2100 UTC in French, target Europe
Transmitter located in Great Britain (Skelton)
per bc-b05.txt of frequencies located at http://www.eibi.de.vu
You might consider saving that file for future reference.

Ooops... I forgot to say I was able to listen this program from Amman, Jordan.
They must have a pretty powerfull transmitter there in Ascension Island...

I think your location can hear BBC from Ascension in various languages on 15105, 17810, 17830 kHz
and other frequencies at different times of the day.

Check the bc-b05.txt schedule for the BBC using those frequencies and others, look for the target to
be
in Africa.

For instance, I see BBC in French on 17885 and 21630 kHz 1800 - 1830 UTC, target WAf

I'll tried just now on 15400 17830 (BBC English program). I can here it quite
loud and clear with my small dipole (s-meter shows 7/9) ! Off the whip, still
audible but much weaker (0 on the S-meter).

It is like transmistted from Europe... I can't believe this is so clear. I've
checked in the file : no other transmission is recorded on that frequency at
this time.

I got to compute the distance...

Thanks !

Charly
Still newbie, the antenna changes averything...

I used http://www.indo.com/distance to find how far it is from you, I typed in
Amman, Jordan and Ascension, with this result... 4305 miles (6929 km)
